MarkCO, Got question, what barrel are you using on your 280AI. Could you also name barrels in your comment, "I agree some poor quaility barrels of today".
Ruger American barrels, while they shoot good, don't have very good overall quality. They can tighten up groups with some fire-lapping. They also, for the same reason, need to be cleaned a little more often if just shooting them. It does not take me long to wear one out, and, as I have said before, I use them for about 70% of their life, sell the whole rifle and get a new one. Cheapest rifle, to shoot, per shot, that I know of. Mossberg rifle barrels also leave a lot to be desired in terms of the manufacturing quality. There are, of course, others out there that have low QC, but I've not shot them, so I'd rather not comment on the actual quality without knowing.
