25acp....Viable SD round...Well

The old saying a mouse gun is still better than throwing rocks is trite and tired, but there's a lot of truth behind it.

Almost as important (or maybe even more important) is to have a gun that you trust to work when the chips are down and that you know you can shoot well.

If that's a .22 or a .25, then that's not a really that bad a choice. I've seen FAR too many people at the range with small guns in larger calibers that simply ate them alive to the point where they couldn't shoot them worth a damn.

It is often said of the tiny .25's that "it's better than nothing" ....and it is TRUE: There is not one decent gun out there that it beats in any category other than "So tiny it's hard to shoot decently" ..... there are better tools for the job, unless the job description includes a requirement for inducing comments like, "Awwwwww, look at the da kewt widdle bulwets!", or "My gun is smaller than your gun! (said nobody, ever)".......

Jimbob-
Your condescending comments toward those of us who like the .25 are getting old. If you are too lazy, too inept, or just don't want tolearn to shoot a small gun, why don't you just carry your .45 and butt out of the conversation?
You can't make a .380 as small or light as a .25. .25's have been working for well over 100 years.
Here is something to think about:
The ONLY 100% effective stop from any pistol is a central nervous system shot.
It doesn't matter if the caliber is .25 or .50. ANY other pistol shot may/ may not produce a stop.

There is not one decent gun out there that it beats in any category other than "So tiny it's hard to shoot decently" ...

A classic "No True Scotsman" fallacy: http://www.logicalfallacies.info/presumption/no-true-scotsman/.

By the way, a Beretta Bobcat is not hard to shoot decently.

"My gun is smaller than your gun! (said nobody, ever)"

I've heard that statement uttered by those looking for a deep concealment pistol or even compact carry guns. You don't hear it often, because those who buy deep concealment guns don't make a habit of advertizing the fact they are carrying.

I had a PSP (predecessor to PSA) Baby Browning. The PSP copy was actually licensed by FN. It was reliable and accurate, even with the miniscule sights. I put a set of pearlite grips from a Bauer on it, and had a hard time keeping the ladies from laying claim to it. I eventually replaced it with an LCP because the Ruger, although bigger, weighs the same and is actually thinner in the grip area. The .25 is easier to hide, but I can still conceal the LCP anywhere I can hide a .25.

We've got a cop who was shot in the back of the head at contact distance with a .25 and thought he was punched. He killed the guy.

Handgun bullets, especially FMJ have a bad habit of glancing off of skulls and not penetrating. Not just the lowly .25ACP, but the mighty .45ACP as well. If you want a bullet guaranteed to penetrate a skull and get the job done go with something fired out of a rifle.

Peggysue nice collection. I love small guns also and have several that you do. Seecamp is working on reintroducing the LWS 25. They are just waiting for magazines. It wont have the guide rod and will be polished like the 32 and 380. I put myself on the list for one already. i have a restricted edition lws 25 already. They are a pleasure to shoot. check out the seecamp forum for more information.

My Colt Jr. is the easiest to carry as it fits the pocket perfectly.

The report is so loud that it would deter a mugger not to mention lay him low. I'd hate to get hit with one of these tiny pellets as it would surely spoil my day.
Now if I can only modify my calculator to fire 25 caliber ammo, it would be the perfect carry weapon. Shirt pocket nerdish, but no need to conceal it! :D

The S&W Escort was small and well made.
It was for sure made in .22LR, but does anyone know if it was also made in any other caliber?

The Escort was only made in .22lr, if I remember correctly.
They were well-made, but had a reputation of not working well. That's why they were discontinued.
