257 Wby VS. 257 Ackley, opinions on a new rifle

You will PROBABLY get a bit more speed with the Weatheby, likely, in fact, but NOT guaranteed. It depends on the individual rifles and loads used.

I was shocked to find that with 3 different loads shooting 100 grain bullets that a 25-06 I made for an old friend B.E. outran his factory 257 Weatherby mag by a small amount.

A friend of mine had a somewhat similar experience with the .270 bore. He was quite proud of the velocity of his .270 Wby magnum, UNTIL he got a chronograph and found out that his .270 Winchester was actually beating his Weatherby by about 30fps.

This is not typical, but it does sometimes happen. Some barrel & load combinations shoot faster, some slower than the average.
