$250 for S&W mod. 10?

Whoa!

Fellas,
Let's not have a pi@@ing contest on "my" thread! I'm getting some very worthwhile advice; let's keep it that way, or "take it outside."

Mike

Yes Jim, that's quite true.

The only mitigating factor that stops the prices from going too crazy is the sheer number available (of some models),
in this State of 35 million.

So I suppose that I can tolerate say, a 10% "premium" over what I would have paid in other parts of the Country.

Regards,
Mike

Mikeseli,

I glossed over the fact that you're in California. When I saw Catskills, I stopped reading. :)

Given what's going on in California, that's not a bad price at all, so I'd jump on it were I you.

And, who's pissing on whom?

That price is "ballpark" just about anywhere in the country. If you like the gun and you know you're not getting screwed (and you're not) then buy it, shoot it and feel damned good about it. Life's too short to worry about a few bucks. Personally, I'll pay a few extra bucks for a pristine gun; I want to be a part of it's "character development".

Mikeseli...

Here's a pic of my M10. Can't find the BOS so I can't remember exactly how much I paid for it.

Thanks Mike,

Although I still prefer the prices in my native upstate NY, and what I found in rural Missouri, it really isn't that bad a market here. Yes there are some "hoops" to jump through, and maybe that Calif. "10% premium", but the volume of what's out here keeps the price from going too crazy.

On the question you pose, there was some trouble brewing, in regards to politics, which was not relevant to this thread. Fortunately, it appears that we're all "chilled" now.
"Can't we all just get along?"
Save it for the Antis!

I'll add your vote to the go and git column.

Regards,
Mike

PS: Atticus thanks for the advice, you're right. FPrice, thax for posting the pic.

Here in Southern Nevada, my local dealer has one in the case at $275. I would say is is in about 90% condition. It has been sitting there for quite awhile, but that may not have anything to do with price. I would say, buy. It sounds like a nice gun at a good price.

Wow, would have thought that it would be cheaper on your side of the line (So. NV), than in the 'burbs of Lost Angeles.

I'll add your vote to the go & git it column.

Thanks,
Mike

Well, lord knows I'm biased enough to wade in at the first sign of trouble, but I've just not seen any in this thread...

But then again, that could be my monumental streak of anti-Smith & Wesson bias showing through...

Mike, you're quite a card.

Must be a real riot at parties. That's if your swelled head fits through the door :)

......and $250 for ANY 98% Smith is one worth buying.

Who's bickering?

I've not bickered a single bit in the last week.

Just embracing my inner bias against all things Smith & Wesson (I pick up my THIRD Model 19 next weekend, by the way), is all, and warning people of that...

Not bickering at all. Just pointing out the childishness of one of our "Standard Catalog Commandos".

I will be picking up a minty Model 41 target pistol with a couple barrels myself.

"......and $250 for ANY 98% Smith is one worth buying"~~~~~~~~~~I agree with that!

And the way I look at it is that over that last twenty years or so, I have never had to sell a gun for less that I paid for it.

Mike Irwin

Are you and "your inner bias against Smith & Wesson trying to get every Mod 19 or just the ones in VA
BTW
Were you one of those kids in school who was a high frequency, low intensity problem, every teacher knew you.

I hear some chain being yanked

OBTW get the Model 10, it sounds like a decent deal.

To those who asked- I prefer to buy older guns... period. Don't care much for Colts or S&Ws made in the last 20 years or so. The quality has slipped badly and I just like the old ones better.

I am also not a collector. I shoot my guns and I have discovered that the difference in price between a 98% gun and an 85% gun is often about double. To be honest, I sort of like the look and feel of a well-worn handgun (or M94 Winchester, for that matter). They have more character. I bought a pre-M27 with a 3.5" barrel from the Carbon County Sheriff's Office in Utah a while back for $275. Only about 50% of the blue remains, but it has the slickest action and is the best feeling revolver I have ever handled.

Due to my preferences, I buy a lot of retired military and cop guns. Last year I bought a 2" M10 for $150. It's about 80% finish and works just fine. A few months ago I bought a Victory Model S&W for $60. It was reblued and had a bulged barrel. Well, I had a 5" barrel I bought on ebay for $5 just setting in a drawer. So, went out to garage and clamped barrel in bench vise and turned if off. Screwed in replacenment and I was in business. A $65 M10 in a barrel length I had been seeking for some time. Shoots pretty good. Now, a nice gun with 98% finish would look better, but it probably wouldn't shoot any better and it wouldn't have a great story to go with it.

Well, I've got all 3 Model 19 common barrel lengths, now. Still like an original 3", a 5", and one of the mythical 8 3/8" barreled 19s.

I've also got 2 Model 28s. If they had made those in more barrel lengths, I'd get one of each of those, as well.

I'll go anywhere I need to go to exercise my bias options...

I think in your case bias means:

Being Incredibly ASinine

But you do have good taste in guns, I'll give you that.
Every one you mentioned in this post is a gem.
