I just ordered some Balls, Wads, powder and Caps and broke the cost down with my little I Phone and WOW has BP shooting gone outa sight!
Used to be it was 1/2 that cost when I started about 2 years ago but Obamainflation has just about doubled the costs!
Now that I am hooked, I'll probablly never stop B/P shooting because of all forms of shooting, with B/P you actually "Handle" your revolver more than any other style of shooting and faqce it, playing with your gun is what it's all about!
Loading Clips and just dumping them is not my cup of tea...
I hope this rampant infaltion dosen't run my fixed retirement income off the hobby but I'm gonna fight it as long as I can! Might have to shift from Wads to Crisco but even Crisco's gone up!
AAAHHHHAAH!!!!

You know I just got into this BP shooting, so I don't know how cheap it used to be. Now with that said, I rarely order any shooting supplies because I just can't seem to beat my local Sportsmans warehouse pricing. I mean 100 balls is like 11.49. Even with tax it is cheaper than any place I have found on the net with there jacked up shipping.

We need a sticky thread for the deals to be posted here.

Hawg plus one

I have not yet begun making caps because I get them at a pretty good price at the gun shows. About four cents a piece.

Pour my own balls, cut my own wads, mix my own lube, mix my own cleaning/lube material. Buy caps and powder(only in group buys in lots of 25# or more).

Not a cheap hobby but better than buying all the essentials.

I scored a deal on over 300 lbs of soft lead for free from someone looking to get rid of it. So I bought a mold and cast my own round balls.

I also purchased a large sheet of felt and a set of punchs from harbor freight and a bottle of ballistol. Now i can make a bucket load of wads.

Fortunately i have a local gun shop that stocks the Goex powder and caps so no hazmat fees to pay.

Even with a slight increase in powder and caps it is still relatively cheap by making my own round ball and wads.

old hats

I have found the best place to get quality felt is buying old hats at guarage sales. You can punch a bunch of wads out of an old hat that can be bought for .50 or a buck.

Make sure the hats are made of real felt and not polyester, though.
Polyester can melt and make a mess.
Wads can be made from gasket paper, from the auto parts store.

Yep, same here....

Cast w/free lead dug out of the backstops at the local gun range, caps are about $5/100, felt is cheap at http://www.durofelt.com/ and Goex BP can be had for <$15/lb incl s/h & hazmat (if you buy 25lbs) http://www.powderinc.com. Yeah, it costs more than it used to but what doesn't?

Now, golf.....THAT's a spendy past-time. Glad I don't play that one. :p

I'm hitting close to the $2.47 mark here as well. Powder waste and spillage on my part would be the determining factor.
Assuming (generously) 13 cents for powder,
.11 for ball,
.07 for wad,
.11 for cap,
Total: .42 per shot, or $2.52 per cylinder full.

There is another advantage.....

....to casting your own roundballs.

The size consistency of the round balls I cast is about twice as good as the size consistency of Hornady balls.

I don't know what that means downrange. Probably little or nothing. But I get a kick out of casting balls that are better than bought balls at essentially the cost of electricity.

Here's mine. Ball =Free Caps= 4 cents Powder= 2 cents Cost 7 cents
a shot. Cylinder Full Cost 42 Cents. My single shot pistols I use store
bought balls. Cost to shoot my 32 cal pistol= 7 cents a shot.

Buy cheap,stack deep.
I have enough lead and caps to keep shooting till I get old, gray, and die.
Powder is about the only thing that may run short for me, and that's only because I can't safely store as much as I'd like.
Felt is about the only thing I don't keep on hand at all. Sadly, I don't know of a cheap way to get that. Likely the cost at a fabric store is as high or higher than simply buying wads.

I am just starting BP.I buy everything,Balls,Caps,Wads,Powder. Not counting gas for a 200 mile round trip to Cedar Rapids for powder and balls I figure it costs me .22 cents a shot with my Walker,a little less for the others (less powder)I'll tell ya It's worth every cent. Not counting cleaning but that comes with the fun I guess? O I forgot a can of comet cleaner for cleaning out the sink and a can of deoderant spray for the house after cleaning to keep the wife happy. "WHAT THE HECK IS THAT SMELL,Did the cat fart or was it you?" Am going to buy a bullet mould that will help the cost, free lead.
