Exactly. The 44 mag is considered adequate for black bear. And the point I was trying to make is, the 243 has considerable range advantage over a revolver (at least for me). With a premium bullet a hunter that is a decent shot would have an advantage over the revolver shooter in range and terminal energy. As stated earlier, I know nothing about this. Just have my opinion.

100 grain sierra gamekings have killed two va black bears for me. Just as dead as my buddies, killed with 30-06

Logan summed it up. Bullet placement. Around here average weight is for sure less than 250.

.243 will kill one without a doubt. I would personally prefer a 30.06 or bigger. The black bears in my woods can go more than 450 pounds.
