.22LR

I fugured id put this here as they make .22 handguns in both revolver and pistola.Earlier this week i was in Gander Mtn locally just messing around looking and laughing that the stupid high ammo prices there.I walk by a guy wanting to sell his S&W 22A and i ask how much the shop was offering, and he says $140 but he wants $160.I checked it out, despite being a tad dirty id be suprised it it was shot more than a few hundred rounds.I walked outside and bought it from him,the Gander Mtn guys didnt care as long as we went outside.
Ive been wanting a .22 pistol as my 2x .45's were breaking me up to shoot with.I wasnt looking to buy that day but i couldnt pass it up.Before even shooting it i added a Tasko red dot sight and bought 1100 rounds for less than $50 and headed off to the local indoor range.

Needless to say i shot only 14 rounds threw my 1911 and didnt shoot my ccw weapon at all.I think i put 300-400 rounds threw the .22 until my fingers were a tad sore from loading the 10 round clips.
Once sighted in a was shooting 2" groups at 35' and 3"@70' rested off my gun case of course.Ive never used scopes or sights before and was just amazed how well i was shooting. When i did shoot my .45 i did 3.5" groups at 35' wich is probably the best ive ever shot it.So i think the practice is rubbing off.

Dont get me wrong i love my .45's and its all i ccw with, but man i never knew how much fun a .22 can be and shot so cheaply.Accuracy is almost too scary on how easy the bullseyes came with the red dot installed.

Im still looking for the perfect pocket 9mm i want/need but i have a feeling ill be getting more .22 pistols in my future.

Same reason I own a few 22s. You can shoot all day for $10.

What ammo did you buy 1100 rounds for $50? CCI?

I like the cheap Federal loads. 500 rounds for around $12.

Glad you're enjoying your new pistol.

I bought a brick of 525 by remington for $25 at Gander Mtn
and i got a brick of Federal classics for $20 at another local shop, and also 100 rd's of CCI $9 just in case i had feed issues.Wich i didnt have any really,2 dud remingtons that wouldnt ignite is all.
Im still keeping an eye out for cheap bricks, especially when i hit Wallyworld.
Ammo has been so high latley i feel i do ok when i find a box of 50 .45 FMJ's for $22 a box.I feel im lucky to even find it so i dont so much complain about that price as many places are charging $35-$40 also.

Ive been having range days costing me $80-$150 at a time just for ammo.
Im adding a 9mm to my collection for small ccw use and cheaper target practice.I can get 9mm for less than $12 a box of 50,less at WalMart if i catch it in time.

Nice score. The counter guy was probably thinking he was going to pick this gun up for what you paid.

Tis always fun to shoot on the cheap.

Man, if there was some way, some how to get first right of refusal on every regular Joe that shows up at a gun store or gun counter with a gun they are looking to sell or trade up with, I'd be broke from buying guns at stupid prices.

Gun stores and dealers are in it for a profit, so I don't break balls about how little they give for good guns... but I'd sure like to have those deals dropping in to my lap on a regular basis, no doubt.

I really didn't learn to shoot a handgun until I was on a pistol team in college
practicing Bullseye with my High Standard Victor. And I wholeheartedly endorse 22 conversion units for CF autos.

I sure wish I'd found someone trying to unload an S&W .22 revolver at that price!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the M-22 is a semi-auto, not a revolver.
S&W .22 revolvers are models K-22 (old), M-17, M-18, M-617. And you won't find one for that price. :)

You will get alot of enjoyment from the 22A it's a fun gun. I have had mine about 3 years and no jams yet, just a few duds. I popped an old tasco with the illuminted reticle on mine that I have had for 20 + years. Sounds like you got a good deal.

John

Like said by someone, A .22 is a must in todays econemy :barf: Unless you reload but still a.22 in a auto, revover & riffle can't beat a day at the range with a stick + I would'nt try :D

My Ruger 10/22 and S&W 617 allows me to still be able to hit the range at a lower cost.

Of course I still take a couple of my larger calibers just in case. :D

Darn, orionengr, you spoiled my dreams. ;P

Even for a .22 automatic, that would have been a wonderful deal. I'm kind of/sort of keeping an eye out for a good deal on an S&W or Ruger .22LR revolver for practice and plinking.

Im just glad thay werent upset at the counter for me taking the gun away from them, but most likley they own guns and know what its like to be offered almost half what you paid for something and how much it sux.
Despite me getting it cheap he still made out better than what they were were offering,so basically i helped the guy out, kinda.

As stated its a business and i dont hold it against dealers for making a buck.
The seller said he used the gun to take his ccw with and was trading in to buy a more usefull pistol. From what i can tell he only shot it about 100x as thats what it requires in ohio for the ccw course. It was dirtier after i shot it wich was around 300 rounds.Plus he sold it dirty wich tells me he most likley never cleaned it.

I think the value for one new is $250-$300 depending on the barrel option.
Mine has the 5 1/2" bull barrel with Grey aluminium or alloy frame. Not sure wich it is tho.Used value id say is $200 and up.

It also came with a hard aluminium case that i figure is worth $25 also.

Trust me im looking for better deals on .22 ammo, but it seems to be affected also like the bigger calibers here in Ohio.Luckily its available even tho its over priced.
Tha accuracy is amazing, even since i was able to sight it in at 70' and do 3" groups. No way could i do that with iron sights. If i was to ever get a better red dot with amplified scope im sure it would be even better. But i dont need that and the extra cost as this is my way to have and shoot on the cheap.

I grew up shooting a Marlin 60 series since i was about 7 years old back in 1977.For some odd reason i hate the sound of .22LR comeing out of a rifle. Its to quiet and not much bang,a pistol on the other hand is louder and has a bigger bang.I do plan on getting a good 9mm so i can shoot bigger calibers at the range also and still do it reasonably cost wise.Ill always take my 1911 to any range as its just the best feeling pistol i ever shot.

I remember about 1 month ago my local gun shop wich i pretty much buy from exclusivly as they have great price's and service had a used Walther P22 for $200,i wished i had grabbed that up also.I still may look for one.

I don't know how anyone shoots .22lr "all day" for $10 - I'm sending 300 rounds an hour downrange, and at decent prices that's ~$8/hr. I'm sure one could take considerably more time and draw things out, but why?

That aside, I'm a huge fan of the .22 handgun for range time. Try a Browning Buckmark - stellar little pistol, won't break the bank, and is (for me) more fun than a Ruger.

Jamey

There was a Buckmark listed for sale in the classifieds either here or at THR i cant remember wich.It was 80% and was asking $225 for it ftf.
I seen that a day before i bought my 22a and considered it,but my plan was to be saving a month to save enough for a 9mm range pistol.
Anyhow im gonna keep my out for another Buckmark,i really like how well they look.

I think the $10 thing is a figure of speech but it isnt far off.I spent about $10 worth of ammo when my fingers started to hurt from loading clips.
Its still no comparison to shooting $80-$150 worth of .45acp and i can do that in 1 hour also.

Thus spake The Guru...

" No proper household should be without a 22 of some sort, but what sort encourages attractive cogitation. Of course some places may even have two 22s, and that does simplify the matter of selection."

-Jeff Cooper

As for me and my house....... everyone over the age of 8 has one.

Even with single shots, the kids can burn through a brick pretty fast........

My EDC is a 2" 357 sp101. When a 2" 22lr sp101 crossed my path, I happily paid through the teeth for it. I can't count how many times it has paid for itself.

Sounds like a killer deal. I too am a big fan of .22's. I own a Buckmark, MK I, High Standard, Henry Rifle, and Ruger 10/22 rifle. They are addicting and fun. And best of all affordable to shoot, even at today's prices.
