220 Swift or 22-250?

Oh I reload, my only centrefire to have seen factory ammo was my 223 when I first got it becasue I couldn't get brass. All the others have seen a myraid of projectiles and powders! As did the 223 once I got hold of 100 more pieces of brass!

What mehavey is saying seems logical. If the Swift can produce the same velocity at lower pressure that has got to be a good thing!

I know the 22-250 is a logical choice in terms of choice of rifle and availability of brass etc.

I am however a sucker for odd calibres! Like 375W, 38-40, 218 Bee etc.

To me the biggest advantage of the 22-250 over the swift is that you can get it in a lot more rifles!

If you're looking for a "hot rod" .22, check out the .224 TTH (Texas Trophy Hunter). It's basically a 6mm rem case necked down to .224. It will give velocities greater than the swift, but like the swift it's hard on barrels.

Never heard of that one, but dang.

I believe the old .243=>.224 one was called ".243 Middlestead" or some such. Would be similar - super short barrel life. No real reason to. If you need range, go up to a 6mm cartridge or .257 cartridge.

Someday, someone will neck the .50 BMG to .17 cal.

Well as much as I wanted a Ruger 1 in 220 swift. I have decided to get neither cartridge for now, but stick with my 223 and 6.5x55 as hunting guns!

The 22-250 or Swift are overkill for most of what I want.

Someone already has, the 17-50 incinerator!

If you shoot that round, that's the barrel life. One round. It'll take the rifling out with it and the lands will follow the bullet down range like a few 20 inch long slivers of steel .004" thick and .070" wide
