If you see one, shoot it with whatever you have. They will not wait for you to get something better. 30-30 is not ordinarily considered good to use on groundhogs but it was what I had when I saw them. Worked fine on the two I shot with it.

I'm planning on getting a 22 mag., no doubt a bolt action topped with a top notch scope and with the right luck using a few pellet loads of ammo , I plan to totally eradicate every coyote from the Mississippi to the Misouri rivers in the tall corn state of Iowa !
It works. The 22 mag is at its upper limits in terms of animal size for effective hunting. I would use mine in a second, but be as precise as you can with your hits. If I had a 223, I would use that over the 22 mag for coyotes.
