.22 revolver

If it's strictly between the Taurus and a Ruger save the money and buy the Ruger. Your more likely to be happy with the Ruger and not bother with the Taurus later on. If you buy the Taurus, more likely than not you'll still want the Ruger later anyways. So you'll end up with two guns for $800 instead of one for $500. Like one other reply said - try to buy what you really want and don't settle for second choice. With handguns that is good advice since everyone wants a quality gun somewhere along the way. Skip buying the economy models and you'll get the gun you want sooner.

I have a couple, but my favorite is the Sportsman 999. Very nice for packing and you get 9 shots.

Here's one like mine on Gunbroker. I was surprised the current bid is $400.

Here is mine. The double action is stiff, but it does not stack. The single action is good.

What other ones are good?

I have two that I really like a lot. One is an older S&W Model 18 and the other is a much newer (but still purchased used) Model 17. Both are blued with 4" barrels. Good DA rimfire revolvers do tend to be expensive. Took me a lot of looking and patience to find these two at affordable prices. But it was well worth the wait.
