I think everyone likes shooting accurately, but you need not buy a target type 22 necessarily. I have a FEG MPK in .22 which is a PPK clone. I bought it because I wanted something cheaper to shoot than my M40, and because I could not afford a Walther PPK in 22 or the TPH 22. The sights are decent, the finish is very good IMHO. I had a bit of concern when it shot 3 round bursts with a certain ammo, but since have tested the gun with 8 different brands without replicating the 3 round bursts. I have also managed to find some ammo which has significantly improved its accuracy. To compare to a target pistol, I am sure it is less accurate, but compared to my Steyr M40, I can shoot it more accurately in SA than the M40 out to 30 yards or so. Good luck with your choice. Also I only paid 135 from KYIMPORTS.

One more vote for the Ruger MK II. Mine is the stainless Government Target Model. I would have to disagree about it being a real pain to disassemble and reassemble. Once you know the trick to it, there is no problem. It took me a couple of tries the first time, but it really isn't that hard, you also don't need any tools (a paper clip helps). My MKII has had zero malfunctions so far. Have tried
Winchester Wildcats
Federal Target (not the expensive Ultra Match)
Remington Target
Remington Subsonic

All have worked fine. The Federal is the cleanest and most accurate. I like the Browning Buckmarks too, but I think this gun will outlast any of the Buckmarks.

Also like the S&W K-22 (Model 17)

For target shooting or plinking, the Ruger Mk II, Browning Buckmark or SIG Trailside are excellent choices. The Ruger has several models to choose from, the Trailside is touted for it's accuracy. All are reliable. Compare prices and how they handle/feel in your hand.

For a .22 pocket gun, consider a compact revolver or the Beretta semi-auto. However, as others have stated, the .22 is not a widely accepted self defense caliber, but it is better than a stick!
