.22 LR Wishlist to manufacturers

I am fairly certain that I am not alone in looking to the .22 LR as an option to the high cost of ammo in recent times, and I have quite a few .22 handguns to shoot. But I would like to see manufactures focus more on the caliber in the future and give us more options from which to pick.

For example, I would like to see more concealable, high-quality .22 lr pistols manufactured. I have a Beretta model 21A that comes close to what I am talking about, but the sights on the little gun are virtually non-existant. The gun shoots well; give me a pocket .22 pistol made to be carried with sights as functional as my various 9mm and .380 pocket pistols.

Springfield, can you give me an EMP in .22 lr? CZ, can you work up a RAMI to shoot the .22?

Now this is the more difficult request (and Kel-Tec is getting close).

Surely there is an engineering team that can give us a good, reliable mid-size .22 lr pistol with a hi-cap magazine.... We can put a man on the moon (or we could at one time...); figure a way to put 30 rounds of .22 lr into a reliable magazine for a mid-size quality pistol. I do not believe I would be the only one to buy one.

Kimber, a lightweight commander that shoots a bunch of .22s without reloading? CZ, what about your new P-07 Duty in .22 with 30 rounds in the mag?

Am I the only person that finds this topic appealing?

You are not alone,,,

In the past few months there must have been 30 - 40 posts on this general topic,,,
It's no secret that .22 LR is becoming more popular due to high ammo costs.

And maybe If CZ sees sales of their 75 Kadet going up they would consider investing the money to develop another gun chambered for .22 LR.

Springfield could surely make a .22 EMP,,,
But it would still have that $900 or more price tag.

Can a good reliable small .22 semi-auto pistol be engineered?,,,
Of course they can but they would be expensive,,,
And as another current thread is showing,,,
Most people won't spend much,,,
On "just a .22" handgun.

I know lots of people with little .22 guns by Phoenix, Jenkins, Taurus, and other companies,,,
Most of these handguns are in the $100 to $200 range,,,
The overall quality reflects the gun's low price

On the other hand I know very few people who have .22's such as the CZ 75 Kadet or the Beretta Cheetah,,,
These handguns are very reliable but are also in the $600 - $700 range,,,
Very nice pistols but the quality is commensurate to price.

It's a much smaller market share,,,
Most companies feel there is no profit there.

I will willingly spend as much for a quality .22 handgun,,,
As I will spend for a quality centerfire handgun,,,
But I am not the norm in this at all.

In fact, my next purchase might be a CZ 75B and a CZ 75 Kadet,,,
I just have to pay off that last $750 .22 revolver I bought. :D

aarondhgraham,

You are probably right about the market share for a quality .22 being potentially limited, but the price of ammo is not likely to drop significantly and permanently, so the share ought to grow in the future.

I do have an EMP and would pay the price for a .22 in that model. I pulled out my ol' Beretta .22 and thought I would try it as the substitute, but I just can't see the sights.... That made me wonder about pocket pistols in .22.

And then I bought Kimber's 1911 .22 lr as a trainer for my .45 and 9mm 1911s, and that is when I thought...heck, I might even be tempted to carry the lightweight .22 1911, if it carried a bucketload of rounds.

When Kel-Tek announced its 30-round .22 mag, I got excited by the prospect of a future .22 lr, but the company says none planned.

So.... I guess we will just wait and see what the companies decide for the future.

I would love a .22lr duplicate version of my XD9 with the same reliability and a 30 round magazine...and, I'd like it for FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Ruger could make me happy,,,

Ruger LCR in a 9 shot .22 revolver for $300.

I would be happy if they would just bring back the SP-101 in .22 LR,,,
They used to make that chambering and it was a great gun,,,
I guess they just weren't selling enough of them.

Full Sized Desert Eagle in .22lr plz

I'm not debating the merits of a quality .22lr pistol, but ecomonically, I doubt that any one would buy enough full sized .22lr Desert Eagles to make it a viable option.

well, i'm not buying a full sized desert eagle in .50. thats not an economically viable option for me or a lot of people

I concur, just wondered from a company standpoint where the trade off is in between producing a gun (your .22lr Desert Eagle for example) and selling enough to make it a viable option for them to produce it and make a profit on it.

well, think about it llike this.
how many people will buy a full sized .357, .44, .50 DE
how many people will buy a .22lr DE

casue as it stands, DE arent sought after as self defense, home defense, active carry weapons. They are mostly purchased as hobby/range guns.

but not a lot of people buy them because of high cost of the gun, and high cost of ammo.

but if they make a .22lr version, they might stand to sell more units because of the more attractive ammo cost, while still sorta retaining the fanboy status

it might turn out that they might sell more of the .22 version than the full sized version

Personally, I like Walther's approach ...

P99
P380
P22

I've got a P22 and it runs flawless.
Egormonics are a big plus too! :)

Okay, I know I'm in the minority here, but I'd like to see someone make a decent falling block parlor pistol, maybe even in 22 short.
Ands then I would like to see the old High Standard come back with the quality of old. Or any of those old bullseye/olympic style pistols of yore.

Hey OkieCruffler,,,

You are not alone in wanting a single shot falling block .22,,,
In fact I tried to find a pair of anything for a long time.

I remember laying on a blanket in the back 40 acres of my Grandfather's place,,,
His old Stevens break-open single shot pistol and a box of .22 shorts,,,
That's where the trash heap for several farms was located,,,
Big old rats would come out to scavenge their food,,,
They were my first safari fantasy.

I would love to have a pair of any kind of pistols like that,,,
Me and a friend and a cooler of refreshment,,,
I could be easily entertained that way.

.

I've been craving a single shot .22 pistols for a few years now. And by pistol, I mean an actual pistol with a pistol length barrel. I'd settle for a falling block :D.
