.22 handguns

I've had (or rather my wife's had) a Ruger Single-Six Convertible since the early 70's. It's as accurate off the bench as my S&W M-41 with good ammuntion. In all those years of toting it around, I'd say we've had the Magnum cylinder on it 4 times...it's just too expensive to shoot it...and the add'l noise levels are disruptive to the plinking we're doing. We go to one of the center fire revolvers for more smack if needed.

As to bunny walks, and squirrel hunting for that matter, I love the old gun. It's a joy to use. It's more than accurate enough for the job...1" gps for five shots at 25 yds with Remington bulk .22 lr Golden Hollow Points.

One of the S&W's would be as good...a kit gun or one of the K-frame models if you can find one for a decent price would be as much fun and as accurate.

My Colt Diamondback is not however. 2" gps no matter what I try through it are the rule. Beautifully made and blued, it just doesn't have the accuracy of the old Ruger, pic'd below, with all it's warts, blemishes and holster wear. BTW, that's a 1" gp on the piece of masking tape.

Best Regards, Rodfac

For sheer fun my H&R pre 999 topbreak. 9 shots, self unloading, loads easier than a magazine, not picky about what you feed it.

For something just as accurate and effective in my hands as a rifle: my Smith K22 with 8 and 3/8" barrel. It's a meat gun.

It's pretty hard to beat a Ruger MK anything. This one happens to be a MK III. Four inch tapered barrel, fixed sights. Nothing fancy, just a good dependable 22.

Hello LAH,,,

It took me a while to find one,,,
I bought it to compliment my 4" Trooper Mk-III in .357.

The one on the left is Raquel, the .357 Magnum,,,
The one on the right is Rowena, the .22 LR.

Hey Microgunner,,,

She's a big girl,,,
Definitely a two handed pistol.

But she shoots very well,,,
A lot better than I can aim her. :o

The two pistols are a part of a four-gun set,,,
Here are the other half of the quartet.

H&R Sportster in .22 LR,,,
H&R Handi-Rifle in .357 Magnum.

Someone will inherit a nice cased set when I go.

My go to .22 revolver is a Taurus. It is really a nice handgun, and the only Taurus that I have ever wanted to keep. My Ruger single-six .22 is as nice shooting, but I'm more comfortable with SA/DA revolvers.

I like the semi autos best. They're every bit as accurate off the bench as a revolver and more accurate for me offhand (shootability). My Mark II is amazingly reliable even in the dead of a Minnesota winter. Mt CZ Kadet is excellent as well, but nothing can substitute for this;

Of the two pistols that I own that shoot .22 I prefer my 226 over my 22/45. I think part of that is due to the few thousand rounds I had through the 226 before I got the 22/45. Haven't had to use either for critters though. That might change with my new location and shooting in the desert.

Yes, snake shot will kill rattlers very well. You do need to be within 12' with the .22's tho. I killed 44 here, right around the home place, the first year that I lived here, all with .22 snake shot. I only ever had to shoot one twice.

When you're 3 1/2 feet away from a 4 ft. rattler coiled and ready to strike you do not want rat shot. Trust me on that. You also do not want to miss.:D

I use a S&W 22a for my .22lr needs now. I am thinking about
trading and getting a Ruger MK3 now thanks to this thread.
