22 cal handgun advice

I have the SR22P. Its not a target pistol. It is "paper plate" accurate at 25 yards. If you buy it, with that knowledge, then you will be happy. It has a poor trigger in DA and SA. This is comparing it to a good target pistol, like an older Ruger Mark II Target, or a Browning Buck Mark. The new S&W COMPACT M&P 22 looks promising, and is very similar in size to the SR22P. I would consider that over the full size M&P 22. It only ships with one magazine, where the SR22P ships with two.

The M&P 22 is a full size gun, the same size as the M&P line of duty pistols, but made by Umarex, the same company who makes the Walther P22, and who some people will tell you makes a not so high quality gun, although I own both and they seem to to be just fine. The SR22 is smaller, and made by Ruger, so definitely a quality gun, and seems to be very reliable. Both are good trainers and range guns, depending on the size of the gun you are looking for. The M&P 22 is easy to suppress (just need an adapter), as is the SR22 if you ghet the threaded barrel model, if that matters to you. You may also want to consider the M&P 22 compact, which unlike the M&P 22 is actually made by S&W.
