.22-250 ammo glut?

I keep looking at Walmart stores around here (Florida) and almost never can find any .22LR ammo but at many stores there are all kinds of .22-250. Does anybody have a clue why that is?

You'll find it in FL because it has relatively little use here. We don't have the kind of long-range varmint hunting that a .22-250 is commonly used for. Yes, there are some coyote hunters that will use it as will some target shooters but other than that it's not commonly used.
 
Send 'em out west. We'll burn it up.

It is also one of those rounds that improves with reloading. Most - not all - 22-250 shooters will be reloaders as well.
 
It was what got me started in reloading. It was the first die I ever bought.

What do you mean remember the LEE Loader,Still keep one in the truck for 25-06 now.You never know. That little feller comes in handy.:D
 
Hey, even the Walmart store in my little town has the 22-250 in stock and that is about it as far as ammunition goes.... Speaking of the Lee Loaders, I have 38/357, 44 special/mag, 45ACP, 7MM Mag and others. I recently bought one for the .223 Remington just to have if needed. Of course, the priming system is problematic.

Like was said before, very few semi-automatic 22-250's (if any, maybe Rem. 7400? I've never seen one in 22-250.). Nobody really "plinks" with one, they aren't quite enough for long range stuff due to the light bullets, if anyone does that with one they likely do so with handloads. If you get closer to Prarie Dog country they are getting scarce.. Here in Iowa they are sold out for Coyote season, and because nobody can re-stock much of any ammo.


It's a great round, I will probably never own a .223 bolt action due to having a 22-250.

Olympic Arms sales a nice 22-250 AR-15 Rifle and a AR-15 upper. Send that 22-250 my way ALL store in my area have bare shelfs where ammo once was. And its the same for reloading supplies. HOGSHOOTER
 
I hear all you guys out west but this will REALLY kill you. I went into my local Walmart yesterday and what was the shelf full of,,,,,,7MM Rem Mag! Now what do we need with that here in central Florida?:confused:
 
If we can't find ammo for our shootin' irons, maybe we should buy shootin' irons for the ammo that is available.
Beats sitting around twiddling our thumbs.
 
22-250?

Here in the greater northywest, the local wally worlds have lots of 22-250s, 270s, and lots of shotgun ammo. Nothing else in the ammunition dept but, we have lots of the fore mentioned stuff. Reloading? No powder, primers, or brass but, we have lots .25s bullets. No .224 or .30s but, lots of the .25s.Go figure :confused:
 
Things should start loosening up, as soon as Congress is done working on anti-gun legislation for this session.
