20 illegals found in van. ICE says, "Let them all go"

This story is missing the name and rank of the ICE official who directed the sheriff to let them go. That would have made a complete - and useful - news story.

We don't have to "reform" our immigration laws. The ones we have now are fine - but we don't obey them. The "reform" we need, is to start finding out which officials are not obeying them, and replace them with officials who will.

Illegal Immigrants Free To Go

by Renee Cardelli & Amy Post, NEWS9

Local police said they intercepted 20 illegal Mexican immigrants, but were ordered by immigration officials to let them go free.

Belmont County Sheriff Fred Thompson said his officers were instructed by federal immigration services to let all 20 illegal immigrants go free, and said his department has no choice but to follow the orders from immigration officials.

Thompson said officers stopped a van at 3 a.m. Tuesday which was traveling the wrong direction on Interstate 470 in St. Clairsville.

The officer discovered 20 illegal Mexican immigrants inside the van, including three who were previously deported. The officer immediately contacted immigration officials, who told him to let all 20 immigrants go.

"Once we find out they are illegals, it's like pat them on the back of the head and tell them, 'Go on down the road; you'll probably get stopped again,'" Thompson said.

The immigrants told the officer they were traveling through Ohio to obtain work in Manassas, Va.

Calls to Citizenship and Immigration Services as well as Immigration and Customs Enforcement have not been returned.

Yep, that happened here, right down the river at a neighboring jurisdiction, and it's nothing new. I, personally, have been told to release illegals on two occasions by INS  .

This story is missing the name and rank of the ICE official who directed the sheriff to let them go. That would have made a complete - and useful - news story.
Rep. Bob Ney, after being contacted by Channel 9 news, contacted INS, who promptly replied that they had no knowledge of the incident. Ney said he intends to start a congressional investigation on the incident. We'll see, but I'm not expecting any miracles.

I have been told that unless we have at least 25, they are to be released.

We once got a guy with several POUNDS of weed, No License, etc.....INS advised us that until we got 24 more, dont call them.

How can an ICE "official" give an order to a county sheriff to let them go, seeing as how the county sheriff is the highest ranking law enforcement official in the county??

ICE can "order" the sheriff to paint his sack blue, but that doesn't mean the sheriff has to do it.:D

To release or not

I would think it would be dependent on the situation and if there are other crimes. No one can tell you to release a criminal if that is what you have.

But if you did not have PC and you had no other reason for the stop maybe?

I have butted heads with the feds in the past. But they are not going to commit crimes themselves. Not where I worked anyway. To much clout in the L.A. area to go pushing their position around. Must be more to it.

Movies have really given the world a bad thought pattern on the real world of crime.

Liberals!!!!

We shoot watermelon thieves in the a$$ with rock salt...

Damned liberals!

EDIT
More explanation is needed for some...
Liberals are not willing to shoot illegals with pea spitters...
Much less rock salt...

So we now have overwhelming numbers of intruders passing through with little or no risk to themselves...
As long as they keep their group sizes below 25?

Thats the sad result of the king liberal himself, Bill Clinton.

Billy boy relaxed quite a few INS regulations.

And, if nothing else, we can thank the dismantle America one peice at a time liberals for all the wonderful and generous social programs for illeagals.

:barf:

ill eagles are are one thing, Immigrants are another

But you can't heap all this on Billy Boy. G W's got to take some of the heat.
The BushyFox duo.

Not finishing a sentence

Is an art form.

They never know where you are coming from. Most people think that when you say something, and they want to agree on, so they mention it in a way that they can agree on. Like I say it is an art. Other wise it would be completly in a state of arguement all the time.

Or they are so befuddled they think they know more than you, and you are still in control. I really enjoy these guys, or gals. See it on this forum all the time.

Look how everyone thinks we are better off now then we were 7 years ago.
Or do they:confused:

Beautifully said... :)
HQ I think Bush has handled the border problem about as well he forms a complete sentence.
This too is true...and it is too true to be true too, and the liberal band plays on...

I think GW would have been generally considered a liberal as little as ten years ago.

liberals

Its Bush who supports giving them Amnesty and quite a few Republicans besides the liberals. Last time I looked Dubya was the president and the person in charge of INS since its under the executive branch....and he aint no liberal. So Blame the INS and Dubyah not just liberals.

Eghad
It is the slack in border control for which I blame the bleeding hearts...
It's Bush who supports giving them Amnesty and quite a few Republicans.
The numbers of illegals are overwhelming because of the slack border policies...
This is why the original amnesty was offered... because there was nothing else to do... and the borders were supposed to be tightened up at that time...

This is the same reason "they" want to do it again...
But the liberal-bleeding-heart-leftists won't support a "hard-nosed" policy to make it DIFFICULT and UNPLEASANT to violate our borders and then freely remain in this country as illegals...

GW, for all his incompetence, apparent or real, inherited these problems from past liberal Congresses and Whitehouse Administrations...

As did Ronald Reagan...

At least they're trying to do SOMETHING.

An an LEO I can tell you ICE/INS telling us to let illegals go was the rule, not the exception. Also these were all felony use of fraudulent document being used in attempts to access federal property/military installations.

Blackwater

Must be a different world out there for you guys in LEO service. I feel for you.

When I was on the job, we had quite a bit of leeway, and WC's with "Mucho Cajones". And a Chief of Police that stood by his men.

I haven't seen a Police Dept with "brass knockers" since 1960 (Oakland).

Individuals... yes... Department, no.

Waaaay too much politics at the upper levels...

I'd love to see them take back their "turf"...

and thumb their noses at the "bleeding heart liberals" :p

From the mouth of our President "we must remember that the vast majority of illegal immigrants are decent people who work hard, support their families, practice their faith, and lead responsible lives. They are a part of American life, but they are beyond the reach and protection of American law." Immigration speech - May 16, 2005.

Given they're "beyond the reach and protection of American law" - I guess they had no choice but to let them go.

On a personal note, if they're going to get them go - can I register somewhere to get them to drop one off here? I had to plant a tree today and could have used some help in digging the hole - lots of hardpan.

Why aren't the names of those ICE officials "leaked" to someone in the media, O'Rielly perhaps.
He has no problem going after officials/judges/etc. that aren't doing their job.
This crap HAS GOT TO STOP!!!
