2 Rugers or 1 H&K

I have begun to narrow down my choices (thanks in part to the input here at TFL)

Here they are:

1. 1 (one) .40 cal in H&K

or

2. 1 (one) .40 cal in Ruger (for me) AND 1 (one) 9mm in Ruger (for my wife)

I can only afford one of the above options.

Rev up yer keyboards and let 'er rip. :)

Thanks.

Well, son here is my two cents worth.

TWO is always better than one. Especially when you are considering between H&K an Rugers. I am not a fan of H&K, I personally prefer Sigs, that being said, I will take my Rugers any day as for as dependable, no nonsense and tough.

My p-90DC is a sight to behold, I bring my Sig P-220 to the range and everyone says what a wonderful firearm and they are right. I bring out my Ruger P-90DC and no one even cares, except to say well it is okay firearm and they make crude comments about it.

They stop when I tell them to put their money where their mouth is, and I clean their clocks with my plain jane Ruger.

No Rugers are not glamarous, fashion statements or full of COP glitz. What Rugers are, they are TOUGH, Accurate (for a duty weapon), they go bang when you pull the trigger and they are well made.

DOLLAR for DOLLAR Rugers will win ever time, in my opinion. You can spend more but I personally dont think you get more, when it comes to cutting time, I will put my Ruger against anything the rest of the world has to offer, and I will not feel inferior.

Get the two Rugers. If you dont like them, let me know. I may be able to find them a good home.

As for as the 9mm for the wife, the Ruger P-93DC is a fine weapon.

God Bless and good shooting.

I don't like Ruger autos.... for me, that is.

The reason for this is that the Rugers (like the Smiths) seem to be set up for someone with hands bigger than mine. The controls are spaced a little far apart (ie, the safety, slide release, etc.).

Thus, I don't know what size your hands are but I'd be particularly careful with your wife (most women have smaller hands than men) and make sure the gun fits her hand before you buy.

Other than that, good luck.

When I was picking .45s I got a USP45 over the P97 based on handling and the pleasure I got out of using it. However, if I were buying fighting guns P97 seems to offer a better value and more affordable standard capacity magazines.

Actually, I have both. I have to admit that when I strip the Ruger for cleaning, it seems like a much better built gun. Take apart my H & K and the slide rails are very small compared to the Ruger. The slide on my Ruger is much tighter than the slide on the H & K. Both shoot equally well. H & K is an expensive designer gun and I bought it because I just had to have one. Actually, I like my Beretta better than my other autos, but that just throws a third choice into your problem. Aw, get the Rugers.

Here's a thought... get a used HK and save up for a Ruger.

Just so happens I have a barely used (200 rnds & never carried) USP .40 Compact for sale.

E-Mail me if your interested.

I really like my Ruger P-95. I say it's the Best Ruger semi-auto built to-date. But if you're planning on spending $700.00 on a gun, I'd buy a Glock and a Taurus snub. I like small arms... I'm not a big-gun guy.

The SEAL teams say the H&K is the one handgun they can't destroy... and they can destroy almost anything...
They berate Berettas, say Ruger Reeks, and slander Smith.. They like SIGs but say they corrode too easily...
They would LOVE to carry USP Compacts..,. think the SOCOM is too large but a good offensive weapon with the can in place.

Buy a hk and you will get what you want buy a ruger and you will wish you bought something better.

I intend to go into harms way.

I have a ruger p89 and a HK USP compact in 9 mil, my ruger has been a good gun, but i love my USP, imo it shoots better. I am very satisfied with it and am sure you will love it when you try one. by the way I paid 350 for my ruger a few years back and i paid 450 for my USP a few months ago..

I'm with those above who vote for buying the two Rugers. My experience is not unlike Judge Blackhawk's: I have both an HK Tatical and a Ruger P-90DC. At the range everyone drools over the HK and wants to handle it, but when it comes time to shoot the P90 never fails to aquit itself well; it's tough, accurate and dead reliable. The HK's a fine weapon, but in your situation I'd buy the two Rugers now and save to add the HK later.

I vote for two. When I drove armored cars, I carried a Ruger P85. There sure isn't anything wrong with the Rugers' performance!

Mmmm, fine German HK manufacture vs. Great Made in America tough, Rugers. Go for the two guns. This is odviously not a "get what you pay for" situation. Rugers are great guns, reliable. The Ruger will shoot pretty much anything you put through them. But the USP is a great gun. Next time.

I owned a Ruger P-94 in .40cal and loved the gun. It shot everything I fed it, rain or shine, hot or cold. It stood up to alot of outdoor use and I packed it every where I went.

I traded it away without a second thought on a better gun. The problem with my Ruger was that it just wasn't that accurate of a pistol. It was reliable, it was durable, it was always there when I needed it, but it just wouldn't group 5 shots at anything less than 3 or 4" at 10 yards.

I shoot much better than that with the other guns I own.

If you want to have a gun for both you and your wife that you can plink and play with, the two Rugers are perfect.

If you think that you're going to want to be able to hit something at a distance later on down the road, don't be surprised when you trade the Ruger in on a better gun.
