Dear all,

Hi and i hope every one is doing well !

I have purchased a gun from a friend a couple of weeks ago, for £ 100, as he's leaving the country.

The gun has no model ! it is something like 9 cms. length and 5 cms. height.

One thing is written on it:

Starter Automatic Pistol cal. mm.8

I am attaching photos of it to help any buddy who knows what type of guns is it, and any relevant information !

I'm hazarding a guess but it looks like a Mondial of Molgora (Italy)
I -think- (though I'm not at all certain) that they were either blank firing guns or shot hard rubber balls.
100 pounds is, what, $150 USD?

That steel ball bearing looks out of place in that one cartridge. First, I'm not aware of any starter pistols that fired projectiles. Second, it looks like steel, which makes a poor projectile for many reasons. Third, the steel ball looks too shiney compared to the age of the cartridge.

Starter pistols generally fired blanks and were somewhat cheaply made. Lots of different kinds were made. Looks like a starter pistol to me.

8mm is a very popular blank cartridge caliber for prop movie guns.

I do not know of any real guns chambered for an 8mm handgun round.

The closest you might find would be one of the old browning .32 or .30 cailber pocketguns... Someone "might" have attempted to convert it to fire one of these...

7.65 Browning, AKA .32ACP

But if the gun were built for these cartridges then it would be stamped as such.

Looks like you're trying to ram a 9mm (aka 9x19, 9mm Nato, 9mm parabellum, 9mm luger) cartridge into this poor thing.

I don't think it's a real gun and it wouldn't be safe to attempt to use as such.

It is a blank firing starter pistol. Do not load a projectile round into it. It will blow up. It was made to fire blanks, and blanks only. ther barrel has a thing like a plug in it, in order to prevent it from loading a projectile round. From the looks of it I would personaly probably not even try to fire blanks out of it.

That is a blank firing starter pistol for starting races and such. They are made with a barrel obstruction so they can't fire a real projectile. I'm assuming that the barrel has been bored out so that a projectile could now be fired through it. It also appears that someone has put a ball bearing in a blank case in an attempt to let the pistol fire it.

I would NEVER attempt to fire that pistol with that cartridge and if you do be perpared to loose a couple of fingers or other body parts.

One final comment. You live in the UK where that pistol is VERY illegal so expect to spend some time in jail with a fellow named Bubba if you get caught with it.

Sad. See what Britain has resorted to? Trying to convert blank guns now.

It is sad, but what's worse is that in the UK there is actually a market for deactivated guns. Guns that work perfectly well, that are modified to permanently prevent actual use.

It's like an episode of Twilight Zone

yep,

Looks like you bought either an all expense paid trip to either jail or the hospital to me.

I smell a lock down somewhere close by.....

My daughter was looking at a WWII Japanese pistol at a gun show at it was chambered in 8mm, we also found some ammo for it. So they do exist.

Had I made the mistake of buying that thing in the first place, then after realizing my mistake, I would see no resolution except to destroy the thing. Not only does the gun look dangerous, the rounds also look questionable. Also, without a doubt, the OP should do more homework on firearms in general, prior to purchasing anything. He gave the price in british pounds. Aren't firearms illegal in the UK? Could be part of the reason for buying whatever comes along.

 OP, how many forums did you post this on? I know i've seen it on two or three now.

The gun is trash, so is the "friend".

I'm not crazy about the absurd British gun laws, but I would think this is probably illegal in the UK. I for one would not want to assist someone under the circumstances. Probably illegal, first time poster, a converted starter pistol, etc.

Silence_Warrior,

CAUTION - WARNING

Check the laws in your country about firearms possession.
You may be in violation of the law.
You may be subject to arrest and incarceration.

That pistol may have been designed to fire blanks and it could be hazardous to anyone trying to fire a projectile from it.
