1972 S&W - Too Nice to Shoot?

Shoot it an enjoy it. But also have a workhorse for the high miles. I'd say that gun is too nice for high mileage. But only you can decide for yourself (life is short!).

I don't own any firearms that I can't shoot and shoot reliably and accurately.
One of my points of pride about the firearms I own, is that they are in excellent working condition.

The S&W .44 Magnum at the top was sipped in 1956, according to the factory letter. I shoot it, with magnum loads, its what it was made for.

With blued steel, use a really good anti-rust product like Corrosion-X and/or wax them. Since I started waxing my blued revolvers, I've had way, way less problem with finger prints, freckling and powder/lead residue.

The wax pictured above, along with the same company's surface cleaner, is amazing on blue steel. At both preserving it and making it shine like nothing else will.

collectable. MOST collector guns are 98-99%
Unfired in Box...dan

S&Ws are fired at the factory though, so none of them are unfired. Natural wear, with no refinishing is the biggest factor. Most S&W collectors would want to be able to fire a 14-3 like OP's.

My dear goodness. To the OP, that is a simply splendid specimen. Wow.

As to the pistols, they're tools, so I shoot 'em. Nothing I own is even really collectible by any measure, but I refrained from carrying/shooting them because they were so pristine. Screw that. First to go was a Colt 1911, with a lovely finish (and a sweet trigger). Well, I carry it regularly. Next to go is a CZ 75 B Compact, with that lustrous blue finish. God, what a perfect concealed weapon (for me). Hell, when I'm dead, my descendants can worry about what my pistols look like.

nate45, thanks for that product tip.

Bought one of these in 6" last year too. 1972 vintage and NIB.

I could not resist the temptation either.

Thanks, you guys make me feel much better :)

I've decided to part with it since I can't shoot a lot of +P ammo through it while practicing for the silhouette matches. :(

Note: this is not fishing for a sale, thank you. ;)

I'm going to try a new optics mount on the 686 that, hopefully, will allow me to shoot the same gun in both irons and optic classes.

Hope to get it within a few days.
