Had this on lay away forever it seems.
Paid it off and picked it up yesterday. She's a beater and will be shot extensively
Hopefully starting this weekend. For $299.00 I think it's a great gun, flaws and all!

Suggestion: If you plan to shot it double action, lose that trigger shoe. They raise hob with trigger control.

Thanks..I have dry fired it a bit in DA..(must have a 2.5 lb trigger!) and it doesnt seem to bother me..Live rounds might be different..I hope to get ahold of a box or 2 this wekend

I would have bought it.

Shame about the diamond targets being mangled.

I would lose the shoe. Often they stick out past the trigger guard and that's an AD waiting to happen. Plus it's ugly.

Made the year I was born, wish I still looked as good:). I also like 38 Special a lot. I would have also bought it.

I have never seen a trigger shoe before. What was the purpose?

Thanks!
James

It hardly looks like a beater.
Enjoy.
Trigger shoes are supposed to help with target shooting, by providing a wider, more comfortable, trigger and better angle.

Yeah the stocks are a 2 out of 10..Some previous owner also chipped out (not drilled) CHIPPED out a hole to get to the strain screw:eek:

There is also one really bad flaw that I am almost ashamed to show of this old girl...Probably the same PO must have wanted a round butt and ground the grip frame to a round butt's contour..

It wont change the holes in the X of my target.but WHY on the good Lord's earth do such a thing??

Was the grip frame reduced in the back or in the front? There was a style of stocks popular back in the day that required cutting the front of the grip frame. Doesn't show with targets. I have an old Officers Model Colt that has been so modified. If the rear was reduced that means regualar square butt stocks no longer fit properly. Can't tell from the photos.

Congrats on your new baby! Looks like a nice one and you are going to love it! I have one a year newer than your pistol (1956). A fun and accurate handgun! Enjoy! :)

My 15-3 is my favorite 38.
First time at the range, I was shooting at 10" steel plates at 40yds and hitting them every shot...
A shooter nearby says "shoots pretty good...must be a Smith & Wesson...".

That was someone's half-hearted attempt at a round-butt conversion. No matter- like most Smiths from that era they shoot amazingly well.

I'd lost the trigger shoe as well- thats an AD waiting to happen if that gun goes in a holster.

Yeah I know that's what somebody's was attempting to do...
Think it's the main reason it was only 299.00

I'd be tempted to get the full round butt conversion completed on that one.
I sometimes carry my 4" Model 15-3 IWB, and a round butt would be sweet.
In the meantime, I use a set of Butler Creek/Uncle Mike square butt K-frame boot grips. They are very small and thin.

Good suggestion, but really don't plan on carrying her..(I have too many better suited guns)
The best use for this is time travel going back in time while punching holes in paper..:D
And to get my woman acclimated to revolvers and be her "nightstand" gun when I am gone for weeks at a time.
