1911's make better Ball point Pen launching mortars

So if the pen is mightier than the sword, can someone suggest a good pen ammo for home defense? What about for street carry? If you take the tip and ink tube out, will the Bic's cylinder be considered a hollowpoint and therefore not legal in New Jersey? Will the pens with gel ink perform like Federal's EFMJ ammo? Does a pocket protector now count as a bandolier? Will someone be produced high cap magazines for military and law enforcement use? If pens can be considered ammo, will they be made illegal to carry on airplanes?

Somebody, please help me! I have all these questions and concerns and nowhere to turn but here for the answers!!!!!

I posted the SAME THING a couple of weeks back and got all of ONE response.

This test is recommended in one of the books I have under "buying a used semi-automatic (1911 type)"

Here's some real fun... my grandfather passed down to me an old enfield .38 S&W. It was uglier 'n hell and a mess, but it came with a wax bullet kit. You put the primer in the brass, and stick the mouth of the brass is warm wax and then let it cool.

Load it up and shoot what ever you feel like in the basement.
For just a primer it's a solid hit. It's not very accurate, but it's fun. I took an old pair of sunglasses and shot them from 15 ft or so and the plastic lens broke if that's any indication.

I'll have to dig that out again!

1911 was a ball point pen launcher

BEN THERE DUN THAT...
If you want to improve your 1911 accurach, triger control and, sighting ability use a sharpened pencil. Place a target on something that will not hurt anything to penitrate [In the house]. Put the pencil down the barrel from the muzzle. Cock the hammer.

If you are serous about learning to shoot that...
1911 gun, after about 1,000 pencils you should notice your control/mastery of the gun is better. It's the grip that gets most people.

I began using the "pencil test" after reading an interview with Teddy Jacobson, master gunsmith in Texas. He said that's how he tests all the 1911's he works on! I do it religiously because I once was in a competition and when I pulled out the ole' 1911 at the first stage, it went "click" instead of "bang". As 7th Fleet noted, I had the safety lever installed incorrectly and it wouldn't fire. I would have had more than a red face if it had been a defensive situation rather than a match!

Mithirium,
Interesting. I have been wondering how I could check the firing pin strike on my 1911's. Wife gets upset every time I pop another hole in the kitchen wall. Besides that it is more fun to shoot those live rounds at the range. Joke! Guys ! calm down!!!

It would quite informative and useful if you were to perform an in depth gelatin test. Expansion. penetration etc.. .
Then of course you would have to perform in depth Ransom Rest accuracy tests. The possibilities are nearly endless.

:p

I have heard of people using the pencil method to learn to control their trigger squeeze.

Kidding aside that is the primary reason I had for using a pencil projectile as well. I had a similiar occurence of dissabling a series 80 1911 and puting it back together incorrectly. It was my only pistol at the time and it must have sat on my night stand for a month before i took it the range and found out it wasn't working. Makes you think oh sh*t it would not have been good if I would have needed it. So now after reassembly I do the pen test.
Plus as a former gunshop commando i witnesses more than a few pen mortar wars. None that I took part in ofcourse as that we be violation rules 2,3,4 and so forth.:)

Can you use a #2 pencil for deer hunting? Or should I use a ball point pen? Which one do you guys think will penetrate the best? I need to know soon 'cause deer season comes in Saturday. Will a box of #2's last a few seasons? What color erasers:confused:
If I get pens what color should they be?....oh gosh, please help:( I thought I was all ready for hunting season and now this issue comes up..oh woe is me:(

Honeycombs big...yeah,yeah,yeah- It's not small..no,no,no

I just performed the test with my G33 (fresh from Smyrna) and here are the results:

First test:
The pen flew straight up into the ceiling and bounced across the table.

Second test:
The pen flew across a 15-foot-long hallway leading to a bedroom. The pen landed against the wall of the bedroom, which is 15 feet from the end of the hallway, giving it a distance of about 30 feet.

My pen of choice is the Paper Mate Eraser Mate black medium point.

It seems that GLOCK, Inc. read WR's post and beefed up their firing pin springs.

If pens are outlawed, will only outlaws have pens?

Can someone here talk the wild pomeranian into doing a proper test?

You guys are so funny, I fell right over!:D .
. . . . Klunk!

Did more testing with 3 other guns to compare results:

Beretta 92FS: 9mm
Made in 1999
The hammer-fired 92FS launched the pen 23 feet.

GLOCK 19: 9mm
Made in 1992
The pen landed 25 feet from where I'm sitting.

SIG P229: 357 SIG
Made in 1995
Pen hit the floor at 23 feet (same as the Beretta).

Side note: The GLOCK 33 was made in 2001. I used the 19 to see if the original spring from '92 has lost much of its strength.

Testing (part 3):

Now that the back of the pen is dented in, I used it to simulate a deep-seated primer.

Here are the results:

GLOCK 33: Pen fell at 15 feet.

GLOCK 19: Pen hit the wall with enough force to put a dent in it. Attempt two resulted in the pen landing 14 feet from the firing line.

SIG P229: Pen fell at 14 feet.

Beretta 92FS: The first pen failed to fire:eek: . On the second attempt, the pen when a grand total of 11 feet before it hit the floor.

Spectacular results 357Sig! :)
I would dare say there is negligible difference in overall range of pen projectiles between the manny models you tested.
That is ofcourse when you use only properly loaded to specs Paper Mate "Eraser Mate" black medium point projectiles.
Lets see if any other faithful researchers can produce similiar results.

Pencils, pens, pistols, hammers, strikers ...come on, guys!
Nothing beats microwaved Eckrich hot dog flying out of
the 12 gauge....

My TZ99 only launches a standard wooden #2 pistol about 5 feet. :( Guess not all hammer fired pistols are that strong.

Please tell me you didn't stay home from work just to figure all this stuff out. If you were staying home sick, then all is forgiven. :)

Do they make +P+ Bic pens and is the Glock capable of firing them! Do you recommend any other sorts of projectiles?:D
