1911 Magazine Change

Another vote for MetalForm. I bought three of them 20+ years ago. Still using them. Needed nothing but an occasional cleaning. Original springs too.

For all those who are suggesting Chip McCormick magazines ... did you overlook the fact that the OP has a Colt New Agent? That's a Defender-size pistol that needs magazines a half inch (and one round) shorter than full-size 1911 magas. Chip McCormick doesn't offer any Defender-size magazines, not in the Shooting Star line, not in the Powermag line, and not in the RPM line. So unless the OP is prepared to have his magazines extending a half inch beyond the magazine well of his pistol, CMC magazines aren't going to work.

Thanks for picking that up . I have practiced with the full size mags an the function fine in my NA , I prefer a flat base mag like the original for carry. I'm going to check the suggested brands , some magazines when compressed function smoother an my way of thinking , would cut down any feeding problems . I find that by seating my bullets .005 lower cuts down on any possible feed hang ups . Also I'm not loading hot . I only carry store bought 230 FMJ.

I got two mags with my Springfield Loaded Target 1911 .45. I bought two more Springfield mags a short time later from Midway, the all run perfect . hdbiker

I got a Colt Combat Command XSE in .45 ACP a few years ago as I remember it came with two magazines. At least one was a Colt Branded 8-rounder, the other I cannot remember if it was a seven round or another 8. I bought a few more magazines some 8 some 7. In any event, I found that I was getting the dreaded second-from-the-last failure to feed syndrome. Being a member then of the 1911 forum, I read there where that problem is caused by no dimple [sic, "tit"] on the magazine follower and that they considered 8 rounders to be problematic. To shorten a long story, I swapped out the followers of the eight rounders for springs and followers with tits. Problem solved. Aside from that, I found that Metalform and MecGar both make magazines that function correctly in my Colt. If you are enthralled with the 1911 platform, you may do well to join the 1911 forum...they tend to have more experts on the 1911 over there.

I have been using Checkmate Hybrids for years in my Colt Series 70, and would like to buy some for my Compact 45 as well, but I really don't know how you guys who always point to Top Gun supply as your source every find these mags in stock. I have been looking for CM Hybrids for about a year without any luck.

Thanks guy's . The new agent came with two magazines , I ordered another mag from MidwayUSA same as the two from Colt . I practice with full size mags they extend about 1/2" but function 100% . I watched some video's on mags some compress much smoother but are full size .

Top Gun stocks what most people buy, which is 8-rounders for full-size pistols. Call Check-Mate directly.
