1911 Argentine Model

I think the value of the gun as-is will be DIFFERENT from what it would be after a painted finish, but there are probably more than a few people who would prefer a fresh finish to what looks like in-the-white, now.
As a project gun for practicing your spray 'n' bake skills, it's a good subject.
It's not like you're painting digital camo on the Mona Lisa.

That is what I was thinking. I figured it wasn't an amazing find, I just thought for $200 this would give me a fun canvas. I miss my old 1911 and this one will fill the void for a while.

For $200, if it works well, it was a good deal. Clean it up well and enjoy! If coating it makes you happy, then coat away. It will make a fine woods/truck gun or EDC.

Thanks for the idea armschannel, I have a 1900 Colt, the one with links front and back, in 38 auto that I was going to parkerize, but I think I'll have it cerrakoted instead.

Colt made 4200 of those. A looooooong time ago.

Sistemas, scores of thousands made. Not quite so loooooong ago.

I suppose it is yours to do with what you will...

But you are joking... right?

HAVE a question, regarding slide interchangeabilty..

between Sistema and current made 1991 slides?

Are they easily interchangeable??

Buddy has a Sistema and would like to fit and new slide using better sights.

Thanks.

PS: why not just parkerize the Sistema? Use good NORON stones for polishinf teh Sistema up?

To use a 1991 slide he would have to remove the Series 80 firing pin safety parts. Beyond that, swapping parts between/among guns is always a gamble -- each part is subject to tolerances, so they may work or they may not.

Why buy an entire slide when he could just change the sights? The rear sight on a Sistema uses a standard M1911/M1911A1 dovetail. The current Colt 1991s use the same dovetail, with a taller sight that has white dots. So the rear sight is an easy swap, and Brownells sells (or used to) the Colt 1991 sights.

The Sistema front sight is a narrow tenon, and the 1991 uses a wide tenon. I don't know how to enlarge the opening in the slide for the thicker tenon, but I know it can be done because I had the sights on an older Colt Combat Commander updated to the newer 1991 style. Or your friend could have the front sight dovetailed, opening up a wide range of options.
