1858 conversion cylinder stories

I think if you buy a cyl for a Pietta, you have a very good chance of it fitting, I only sent mine because the smith at Taylors told me in stock condition they WOULD Not fit my ASM's, I spoke to the smith directly a few times before I felt confidant enough to send my pistols there, if I remember right it took about 3 weeks all told with shipping both ways. As I stated I don't know if they are even doing that anymore.

longrider are you sure you didn't hear that about Kenny Howell who made the cylinders for Taylors? I read some horror stories about him, not Taylors

DELMAR, i did not post my replys to put you of
it was just my op, you do what it good for you
pard, but i am sure there are other gun shops
that stock drop ins and it does not take a lot
of know how to fit one yourself,i have tinkerd
with a few myself to make them fit, it was no
big deal. i have one for sale its a ubertie 45
its on the buy and sell forum, and it will fit a
asm. anyway good luck, shoot safe.:D

FLATHEADSAL, you know you could be right on
that one, that now rings a bell:eek:,
like i said to delmar it was not to rain on anyone
i hope it goes well for all.:)

Just to be clear up some possible confusion. Taylor's & Co. doesn't actually make anything. They are an importer, distributor, and retailer of firearms and firearm parts.

The two most popular and readily available conversion cylinders are made by Kirst Cartridge Konverter and the other one is Howell Old West Conversions (previously known as R&D Gun Shop). Taylor's and Co. is a retailer of conversion cylinders designed and made by primarily Howell Old West.

To my knowledge there is no such thing as a "Taylor's Conversion Cylinder".

p.s. The horror stories I read about on this and other forums concerned firearms sent to Howell Old West to be worked on not Taylor's.

Pietta 38 is what I will be looking for, but I would be very interested in yours If I had a .44

You're right Clembert, the cylinders I bought and were fit for me by Taylor's are R+D's from Howell, they are the distributer for R+D, I should have clarified that, flathead

The R&D conversion cylinder for my '58 Remington needed the cylinder pin bore reamed slightly. After that, it has performed flawlessly. Not easy to build accessories for a product manufactured by another company and to not especially exacting tolerances, so some fit issues can be expected.
