I didn't say i agree with using a 243 Win on elk, especially at those distances. Just that it has been done.
I was shooting 140gr pills out of 7mm-08 at 2,800 fps. So i see no reason you couldn't do the same with the 6.5.
Some camps like weight retention. Some want ALL the energy expended in the animal.
Have had great success with Nosler Ballistic Tips.
Never found a bullet.
I've also had success with the Berger VLD Hunting.
Have only found jacket under offside hide.
Untill they teamed with Hornady, Gunwerks used Berger exclusively.
