Wrong - you can get 800 ft lbs out of a .357 mag and 750 from 10mm

Stop comparing the 10mm to revolvers - it's less gun. That does not mean I don't want one but here again we have misguided information. The 10mm is not a death ray, it is fantastic cartridge in its own righ

You can get alot more out of the .357 than you mentioned too, but it would require a longer bbl. If thats the case, we are not talking about the bullet anymore, but the gun thats shooting it. You may forget that the 10mm is also shot from revolvers.

A glock 20 has a 4.6" bbl, and the hottest loads show a 180 grn bullet producing a muzzle velocity of 1350

compare that to about 1390fps for the hottest .357 load I can find and thats from a 5" bbl.

With the glock I get 15+1 and fast mag changes. To say its less gun would be 100% wrong. Most of the .357 mid range loads you get off the shelf are slightly faster than the 357sig and match the .40sw.
 
It takes handloading to get the most out of the 10mm. Using a S&W 610 w/ 6 1/2" barrel my best 10 mm. loads, using Longshot, crono right at 1350 FPS with a 180 gr. jacketed bullet. The same bullit and max charge of Longshot out of the same gun clocks jsut above 1150 FPS. Note the 10 mm load replicates the full power Buffalo Bore product.
Shooting both loads in bowling pin matches shows much better pin removal with the 10.
My son had a Glock 20. It performed very well but we all tend to have large hands. Fit is a personal thing.
 
I just wish I could get my hands on the powder the mike at double tap uses for their loads...Stupid ATF has made it such a PITA for me to get a class 6 though...Ill bet DTs 180gr load would push 1400 in your model 610.

Proper loads in proper platforms still give the 'power factor' to the 10mm.

It is possible (please understand that word's definition) to launch 200g and 220g bullets in excess of 1300fps from the Glock M20 platform.

Even from my 7.5" 357 Redhawk I cannot exceed what was documented from my M20.

That 1350 with a 180 gr. jacketed bullet is not max. It's near max per the Hodgden manual. The cases just fall out of the cylinder. I would bet the 610 would take more as the cylinder was made for 44 Mag but is bored smaller = more steel around the chambers. I choose not to push it because it's my favorite pin gun and I shoot it well. More energy will not make any difference to the pins. They fly off the table already.
 
Both the .357mag and 10mm come alive in 6" barrels. I've chrono's my 165grn and 180grn 10mm handloads in my custom 6" bbl Glock G20L and 158grn 357mag loads in my 7.5" bbl SA Cavalry shown below with the results as listed.

The 10mm has the advantage of not having a cylinder gap while the 357mag has the advantage of a significantly longer barrel. Revolver barrels are measured excluding the chamber while semi-auto barrels include the chamber. In my case, I'm really comparing a 7.5" 357mag barrel with a net 4.75" 10mm barrel.

These are my chrono result on my handloads on an 84° day at 6,100ft asl.

357mag:
158grn Zero JSP bullet @ 1,458fps

10mm:
180grn Speer GD bullet @ 1,423fps
165grn Speer GD bullet @ 1,503fps

(Both calibers could be pushed to higher levels if desired but both 10mm produce over 800lb/ft of muzzle energy while the 357mag only produces 746lb/ft.)

My G20L (sans magwell) goes with me in the Rockies over my 357mag because I've got 17+1 rds of 180grn hardcast that travel at the same velocity as only 6 rds of 158grn hardcast. A larger diameter, heavier bullet producing more muzzle energy with triple the ammo capacity! What's not to like?

The 10mm is far superior to the 40s&w in terms of velocity potential and could be considered a 40s&w magnum with performance increases much like the difference between a 38spl+P and 357mag.

BTW, I've got a custom Glock 24 and while the 40s&w velocities are better with a 6" barrel, I haven't been able to achieve the same magnitude velocity increases as I can with my 10mm.

The 40 case just doesn't give us enough room when filled with heavy bullets.

Yes, a 220g WILL fit; no, it don't launch real fast....
