10mm choices???

I want to fill in the gaps with my pistol calibers. I am in the market for a 10mm

I do not want a glock. I have been looking online and see lots of choices but not sure what I'm looking for exactly. I am leftie and would like ambi-safety if possible.

I saw an article from shot show stating sig coming out with 10mm.
Rock island, colt, kimber, s/w? What are you guys shooting in 10mm?

If I didn't want a Glock the only other option I'd consider is one of the S&W 1006 series. The 1911's are all questionable. Some work many do not. Same with the EAA guns. I know more folks who have had issues with them in 10mm than those who have had good experiences. I know some have had good experiences, but too many issues for me to put my money in one.

The Sig is an unknown. If they come out with one I'd expect it to probably work well, but until I see one I'd stick to the 2 above. They are the only 2 platforms proven up to the 10mm round.

I've had a G20 for years. It is accurate, softer shooting than my 45 1911's, and handles the hottest Double Tap loads with ease. I like the Smiths too, but so far I've not found a good deal on one at the same time that I had the funds.

Look into EAA. They have models advertised on CTD from ~$500 to over $1000. Not sure about the safety alignment, though? Why not Glock? Is a 1911 (i.e., Colt Delta) customizable to include a left-handed safety?

Tanfoglio had some serious problems a few years ago with magazines and some quality control issues with slides. I had one back then and had all sorts of reliability problems.

I decided to try my luck on a new Witness last year, now that MecGar starting making mags for them again. The new magazines actually work, including in 10mm. I've been satisfied enough to purchase two additional conversions for mine.

Choices

I'm not a glock hater. I'm a springfield guy but I guess based on prices on gunbroker I may be relegated to the glock. Which one is the full size glock?

I have the Tanfo Witness P in 10mm. I've run 5 different brands of ammo from Underwood's to Glazer without a single hiccup. Granted I only have about 1k rounds through it and at least 700 of those were Remington UMC.

As you mentioned, Sig is making a single stack 10mm (P220 model). I've not heard a release date, but it's gonna be costly. While I love Sig (my P220 is my favorite handgun), I would be hesitant to buy the 10mm right away. I'd wait to see some reviews beforehand.

As for which 10mm to get, it depends on your budget. The EAA is nice. I like the Glock 20 for cost. S&W is another very nice one.

I have a 1911 10mm that I have had for about 20 years. With some 1911s and some very early Glock model 20s, there were some lack of case support issues. If you use full power loads in them, you can get smileys near the case head and at worst, the case could rupture. The first link below shows a blown case in a Glock. Note the lack of case support in the barrel compared to the Glock pics in the second link.

I have heard, but no first hand experience, that the Kimber 1911 has some of the best case support. I never heard anything negative about the Smith 1006 if you can find one. I also have a 10mm-38/40 Ruger Blackhawk. It is about the strongest 10mm I have ever seen as well as being scary accurate. Good luck with your search.

Find a *mildly* used S&W 1006 or 1066.
These all-steel 3rd Gen guns have proven themselves to be tanks in both their 10mm & .45acp variations.

Old pic: S&W 1006.

Then there's option #2, which would be to wait until the aforementioned 10mm stainless Sig 220 arrives.

That could be several years, however.

My glock 20 was the first handgun I ever owned. I still have it to this day. It's one of my favorite to shoot. I'm excited for sig to come out with a 10mm as well. I would like to pick up a colt some day as well.

I personally own an EAA Stock 10mm (DA/SA) and I couldn't be more pleased with it. Granted, this has a heavy, tight fitting, bull barrel and some other upgrades, so I don't really know how it compares to the regular Witness line.

For 10mm, here are the choices I know of (non-1911)

Smith and Wesson: 1006, 1066, 1026 (and probably a couple of other models?)
all with about 9 round capacity

Glock 20 - 15 round magazines.

EAA/Tanfoglio: Higher End - Limited, Hunter, Stock (no longer made), Stock II, Limited Pro (arguably, though I don't think it has the bull barrel)
Regular quality - Witness, Witness polymer, Compact, Witness Elite Match. I believe most, if not all of the EAA guns have 15 round magazines.

There are a lot of 1911 makers that make a version in 10mm, too many for me to list.

Bren Ten - no longer made

With regard to Sig - I would like to see them make a Sig X-Five in 10mm - perfect platform for 10mm. I just don't see much need for another low-capacity single-stack 10mm.

I've been a 10MM fan since the release of the first run of Colt Delta Elites and have pretty much had them all. I shot more than a few cases of the original Norma loads through a couple of Colts and never had any issues. The Ruger Buckeye Blackhawk in 10MM/38-40 WCF and the S&W 610 are without a doubt the strongest platforms in 10MM hand guns. I also have a model 20 and had a model 29 Glock, they are/were fine guns and easy shooters with today's mass produced ammo. The S&W 10-- series semi autos are built like a tank and with proper care will out last you :D . My S&W 610 with being able to also shoot 40S&W is my favorite for many uses.

I have a 10mm Kimber Eclipse Custom II. It's the only 1911 I'd have, because I'm one of the few people who like the "series II" grip-controlled firing-pin-block ... that extra type of safety is actually a requirement for me. I think my gun's ergonomics are absolutely the best, bar none. I've heard that Kimber no longer makes the Eclipse in 10mm, but they do apparently still make one or two other models in 10mm. The Eclipse isn't an ambi, though ... I don't know about the other 10mm Kimbers.

(My only other carry gun (except for my S&W360sc BUG) is a S&W69 .44mag 4-1/4" 5-shot revolver ... I carry it about half the time, and full-time when the bears are awake in the warm months around here.)
