1000 yard 308

1200 fps is generally considered the breakover point for bullets that have unpredictable behavior in the trans-sonic regime. The 168 SMK if you run it right, will be right around there, or slower, at 1000 yards near sea level. When I run the same numbers for a 175 SMK or 155 Lapua, they are over 1260, or closer to 1300.

From personal experience, when I shot the 168 SMK (FGMM factory), I had a really hard time hitting targets consistently at 800. When I switched bullets, no problems out to 1000+
 
There are a lot of people who report bad experience with 168 SMK at 1000, or 800+. You could try to make it work, or you could just use a bullet/load that is known to work at 1000.
 
Thanks for the info Zak! I was wondering what the problem was...at 800 yards I was doing better than 9.5" spread but at 1000 I couldn't hit with any accuracy at all on a 20"x20" plate.
