1000 to spend on scope for .308, what do you recommend

i have a pile of $ 300.00 scopes they all have not lived up to what they say. i just didn't sart shooting last week. my eyes are not what they use to be . i have saved for a better scope and have been looking for a couple years. and are finally ready to have a better scope. i have finally figured it out you get what you pay for. and i agree with most of the old saying, from experience, you should spend more for your scope, than your rifle. most guns will shoot better than the person. but i my eyes are not 25 years old anymore. and if you can't see it you can't hit it. what i used to see with my 3x 9. i can't see anymore, but i can't still drive tacks when i can see it..

Leupold VX3 in the 30mm tube. Old eyes like yours and mine need all the light they can get. As for power range, 4.5X14 is my personal choice. My other preference would be the Zeiss in the same power range and tube diameter. Either should be close to about $1k.
