$100 .22 semi for plinking

22 range madness!

^ If you love shooting a ton of rounds outta your 795, invest in a few extra mags and the UpLULA 22 speed loader made by Butler Creek. Makes my range trips way more fun, and my finger way less sore:D They also make a killer universal centerfire pistol loader. Works great for my 9, 45, and my buddy's 40 and .380.

Also really wanna get this tube speed loader for my 60 and Savage model 6.

Come to think of it, I want 2 or 3!!!

Try this...
remove your stock/action screws & check the threads...
if good, replace them and finger-tighten...
once you feel resistance, stop.

Check the bolt...should slide back & forth freely.

Tighten each screw by 1/4 turn until the action stops sliding easily...
then back off 1/4 turn...and you should be fine.

Best thing you can possibly do for that rifle is take it to a gunsmith and have it pillar-bedded...costs around $50-75, depending on the smith.
Pillar-bedding solves any possibility of stock/action misalignment, which tends to cause the binding you describe. :)

You can do it yourself with Brownell's Acraglass and some pillars, but it is advanced gunsmithing and should be performed by a professional.

Appologies to the OP

Looks like we have done a good job hijacking this thread to argue about the 795... I stand by my recommendation... I think it is a great rifle. Keep an eye out for deals on used guns, too, though - you never know what is out there.

Semi P - Sorry if my choice of words rubbed you the wrong way. Just making the point that discussing a jamming problem with a specific rifle is not really in line with the OP's inquiry, and would probably be best discussed in its own thread so this one can help the OP with his purchasing decision. No hard feelings, I hope:)

Its been my experience that most of the semi auto rimfires work well untill they get dirty. Unfortunately, all the 22 rim fire I have come across is dirty. By that, I mean the powder. Those little flakes just get in everything! Revolvers are the same way too, but not quite as bad. Even the bolt action gets its share.

i love older 22's. In newspaper classified ads many sell really cheap and are worth alot. That said my favorite knock around 22 is a Romainian trainer, I bought for 70 dollars. It is accurate as it is ugly. I love the leaf sights.

I was given a Marlin 60 (I think) when I was 13ish by my grandma. I'm pretty sure it'd never been cleaned and the best I could do was swab it out. Never could figure out how to take it apart. But that thing never jammed (to my, albeit horrible, memory).

The only thing I don't like about the underbarrel rodded guns is the friggen rod pops out and ejects itself into a pond.... I've since stayed away from them.
