10 Must Have Handguns?

1. 1911
2. S&W 686 or Ruger GP100
3. S&W J frame or Ruger SP101 snub.
4. Glock 19/17/34
5. Ruger MKII or Ruger MKIII or a Browning Buckmark
6. Kahr K9
7. S&W K-frame 14/15/67
8. Sig P22x
9. SA Xdm 5.25
10. CZ 75

"Interesting that other than "S&W of your choice", no one has yet listed the Model 29.....not even Mike!"

I have zero interest in the .44 Magnum.

I seriously considered putting the Model 24 on that list, which is a .44 Special, but I don't really consider it to be a "must have."

Here are mine again, in no particular order

  1. S&W model 19
  2. Ruger Redhawk in .44
  3. CZ 75 of some type or select clones (Including the IMI Jericho)
  4. SIG P232/Astra A60
  5. HK P7
  6. Astra 680
  7. Makarov PM
  8. Ruger .22/Kadet conversion
  9. Ruger SBH Bisley Hunter (with scope)
  10. Ruger/SIG 1911

I would love to see baddarryl consolidate the lists and see what comes out in the end.. so far I see:

1911 will make the list
CZ-75 and variants will make the list
S&W revolvers will be represented, tough to pick just one.
Glock something - just because there are lots of Glock lovers
Sig - how could Sig not make a top 10 list?

Very popular caliber selections appear..

45 in revolver and semi auto. 1911 and S&W 25/625

22 lr in revolver and semi auto woodsman/mark II/hi standard/buckmark S&W 17/18/617 /41 ruger single six, colt (forget the model but it is like the trooper in 22 lr)

9 mm in semi auto sig 226, CZ 75/85/85 combat, hi power, 1911 in 9 mm, Glock 17/19/34

38 357 in revolvers. GP 100, service/security six/blackhawk , colt trooper/dectective special/python, S&W 36/60/65/66/10/14/15/19/586/686/27/28

It is kind of looking like a pick your caliber choice and you can't go wrong.

I appreciate it ....but I'm no trend setter.../ more like set in my ways ...but I've figured out what I like in guns ...

I especially like the .44 mag in the S&W model 29 in an 8 3/8" barrel ...its pretty easy to shoot it well in that heavy gun ( or even in a 629 model, which is a little heavier )....and I don't shoot a lot of .44 mag ( maybe 1,000 rds a yr) - especially compared to how many rounds of .357 mag I shoot a year ( about 6,000 rds ) ..

.....but I am considering ordering another Freedom Arms single action, large frame, model 83, 5 shot, Premier grade, with an octagonal barrel -- probably in a 4 3/4" ..or maybe a 5.5" ...in .44 mag....( I have a 4 3/4" in .357 mag - that I had made in 2012 ).....

Colt 1911
Colt Python
Browning Hi Power
Sig P210
Luger P08
Beretta 92
S&W Model 41
Browning Buckmark
Glock 19
PPK 380
S&W Large Frame 357

Yep I cheated. That's 11.

So far I only have 3 of those, so I better get busy.

I can't think of ten must-haves. I mean, you can fill just about every shooting task required of a handgun with 1911 variants, so is that one gun, or ten guns?

I hate these posts, but am drawn to them like the plague!

a 1911 - Maybe DW Valor
a Glock - Perhaps a G19 or 21
an XD - XDM45
an easy to wear CCW - Kahr P40
a swimsuit gun - Keltec P32
a BBQ gun - Wilson Supergrade or Cabot. . .blued
a hunting revolver - Ruger SA Bisley 45 LC
a long range hunter - XP100 or T/C Contender
a 22 - Browning Buckmark, S&W 41, Sig Trailside
a S&W Revolver - 19-3 blued 99% condition

Boy, I have a long way to go.

No particular order:

Colt 1911
S&W .357 magnum
Ruger Blackhawk/Single Six
Ruger P series
Beretta 92
Colt Peacemaker
Glock 19/17
Browning Hi Power
Gen 3 S&W auto
Ruger Mk I-II-III

I guess I'll try to do a practical list to cover a lot of what I like to do and cover a collection of iconic guns at the same time, plus pick from my current collection.
Smith 442
Browning Hi Power
Colt Gold Cup
Colt Lightweight XSE Commander Super 38
Smith 686 SSR
Ruger flattop Blackhawk 44 Special
Custom Ruger Redhawk 4" 44 mag
Colt SAA 45 Colt
Smith M41
And I guess I'll take either my Sheriff's Vaquero 44 Special or my USFA SAA 45 Colt so I can have a second gun to shoot CAS

Browning Hi Power (of course! There is only one perfect pistol ever made, and Glock isn’t it)
Colt 1911 (I am ashamed to admit that I have very little experience shooting 1911, which, I know, I know, is just Un-American! Will have to get one and correct the situation in the future)
Colt 1903 (not only the best looking handgun of all times, but one of the most beautiful things human race has ever created)
Colt Python (I am not a revolver guy, but I want one)
CZ75 (everyone needs to have at least one)
HK P7M8 (when HK was HK!)
Ruger Mk ? (I kind of like the looks of the Hunter, but a Target model will work just as well)
Sig P210 (I have never shot one, but if what everyone who has says is true, no question about it)
Walther PPK/PP (if only they did not shred my hand into a bloody mess!)

That’s 9 out of 10. I will need to think about the last one (Luger, Broomhandle, full auto pistol – that should be fun!, ...?)

For me they are, in no particular order

#1 Les Baer 1911 45 (probably tied with #2 for my favorite handgun ever)
#2 S&W M19 4" (tied with #1)
#3 S&W M41. Most accurate .22 handgun I've ever fired
#4 S&W M52. Mot accurate handgun I've ever fired. period
#5 S&W M24, 25, 27, 28, 29. Take your pick, everyone needs an N frame
#6 Browning Hi-Power
#7 Glock 17 or 19. Take your pick, everyone needs a Glock
#8 Broomhandle Mauser. The coolest looking handgun ever built
#9 Ruger Blackhawk 45LC stainless with a 5 1/2" barrel. The perfect outdoors gun for me
#10 Luger

I own or have owned 9 on my list. Now if the list were 20........ LOL
