10 Million Glocks Sold

From the op

The scuttlebutt coming out of the Glock Armorers classes is that Gaston Glock has surpassed 10 million guns sold. That is what you call wide acceptance!

I did not say it came from Glock. That's why I ask...where does the figure come from?

The OP says from someone at a Glock armorers course. This is the same source cited for the rumor in 2013 that cited 10 million Glocks produced I linked to earlier from Glock talk.

Why accept the figure as good coin when no reliable source is cited?

I would agree, it just seems like you're pretty upset about it is all. You've asked for an official source at four separate points in time now in the same thread, once bumping it again with the exact same question from the night before. I think if someone had a works cited page they'd probably have provided it by now.

Let's say it's not 10 million, let's say that they are approaching 9 million and will announce it soon (this seems more likely given the facts revealed in this thread).

For comparison, Ruger has made 15.3 million firearms from 1986 through 2010, a date range that dovetails nicely with Glock's production. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturm,_Ruger_&_Co.,_Inc.
This is firearms of all types, not just handguns. Ruger is the largest producer of firearms in the US, and probably the western hemisphere. Ruger is the largest producer of handguns in the US.

So if Glock made 9 million handguns from 1982 to 2014, that puts them in the same ballpark as Ruger. Glock is probably second to Ruger, because I can't imagine who else would be ahead of them. Whoever is third is probably a distant third.

Good point. It just rasps me some. I'll leave it be. Glocks are good enough to stand on their own. They've proven themselves many times over. They don't need fluff to promote them.

You use good ammo and Glocks work every time, simple, pick up and shoot. Many other high gloss guns cost more, but not many work more ... period.

I wish Glock made coffee makers. I get irritated when I have to replace my coffee maker every couple of years regardless of the price.

Insecurity. Nothing more, nothing less

I don't know about that. Most naysayers are just naturally that way, probably with most things they don't do or have. It is easy to type words ... that doesn't mean they have actually done or are who they say there are or do what they say they do ... so don't worry, like the winds they will pass...:)

Anonymity is like a halloween costume ... you can be who anything or anyone you want to be in that world...

Apparently it's difficult for many here to be objective about guns. 10 million firearms sold is a very impressive number. Discounting all other factors, it's an impressive number. How many gun makers can make the claim?

Folks have added their own narrative to downplay that point such as quality (the OP said nothing of quality), justifications why others haven't reached that milestone, made versus sold (not the same) and the like.

Objectively, Glock has sold 10 MILLION guns. That is impressive by any standard. Others may have done the same, but they are few and exist in a rarified atmosphere.

Let me start by saying I own 3 of them, so, not a "glock hater"

Man are they ugly, but so am I and I function well and so do they.

The company knows how to get their name out there. All of us gun enthusiasts know about them, but lots of people who know little to nothing about guns know the name. That counts for sales especially with their reputation for being reliable. Why are they reliable? They're loose as all get out.

They're a decent gun for a price that most can afford. There's lots of guns that dont come close to a glock and there's lots of guns that glock doesnt come close to. My opinion.

One rides the nightstand for my wife, one is my 9mm (I think everyone should own a handgun in 9mm) and the G32 is my beater carry gun. I could care less if the ugly hunk of steel and plastic gets banged up. It's just a cheap gun that runs. Scratches wont stop that.

10 million fugly pieces of metal/plastic sold... maybe they'd cut me a deal on another one.....
