10-22-How many rounds....

My 10/22 isnt anything special but I take care of it like it was. I clean it after every trip shooting. How much I clean it depends on how much it was shot, but its always very clean before it goes into the rack.

My rifles are like yours, Bamashooter. Every one is special. ;) It's just that a .22 is a special case that doesn't necessarily need a thorough cleaning very often. It seems that some rifles, 22's especially, do better without regular cleaning. .22 mag is similar, just not quite as robust. .17HMR seems to have pressure issues so I treat it more like a CF rifle.
I'm afraid the .22 in question will require a bit more cleaning. May require a fresh brush before this chore is done.

I've considered building one of those, Doc. I have another 10-22 around here that I bought for my dad. Doubt it's seen 200 rounds in 20+ years. I've often admired rifles like that, just can't say for sure when or if it will make it to the top of my project list

I had plans to build one years before I finally got to it. Then went all out and ended up replacing every part with KIDD components in about 2 months. I can honestly say Ive never had more fun shooting before. I love all the tweaking and experimenting it takes to get the best out of it. Every trip to the range has a "purpose";). Ill be bummed when theres finally NOTHING left to do to it....Im pretty much there.

The cost though has been a LOT more than expected. In addition to all the costs of the parts, theres a lot more to buy from torque drivers to high priced ammo, new case to fit the giant scope, tools etc. I recently realized that to get the most out of it Ill need better rests...well a $160 Caldwell Rock BR with Protektor front bag and a $125 Edgewood rear bag were a MUST have(so I told the wife:D). Ill "need" to get some match ammo to see what it can really do after that. My last 500 round purchase ran over a $100...$100 for a bricks worth of ammo!?+ A year ago I wouldve said that was crazy...I still do actually:o Ive got over 2K into everything since early July....and right now its out of state getting professionally bedded and pillar installed....still havent been told the final price for that....

It can be done cheaper, and still get good results. I just wanted the best of the best for this project. I always heard guys say it turns into an addiction of sorts. I didnt really get it until I got my first aftermarket parts...now it makes perfect sense:D

Dr Heckel..... Your right of course but isnt it fun. I love experimenting with handloads or trying different combo's of scope and rifle, ammo and rifle, whatever. Im like you I end up spending more than I should but like I told my very supportive wife, its better than spending that cash on liquer and whores. :D

I hope I'll never have to give up my booze but I've given up on chasing loose women. An occasional divorcee chases me around every now and then and I let them catch me-just not very often.
My 10-22 looks stock but I recall doing a trigger job and a few other things while I was in there. It's pretty easy to spend serious coin on a "budget" rifle. I have some target ammo around here but it seems to like the Wildcat better, my MKI is the same way. That's just fine by me.:D

Note to self (and anyone else who likes spray cleaners): When cleaning rifle parts the night before trash day don't hang your 10-22's bolt handle and recoil spring on the edge of the trash can to "drip dry". Good thing my friend Larry Potterfield has my credit card # and shipping address. ;) Had to buy a few more Ruger parts and another small part to reach the minimum order so I guess it's a cheap lesson learned. :o
