Zastava M70a

Just have to say I'm impressed with Zastava`s new M70a tokarev clone. Chambered in 9mm luger which makes it far more shootable than the harder to find 7.62x25. Put a few hundred rounds of fmj and jpg through it with absolutely no jams, stove pipes, or fail to feeds, even with the cheap steel tulammo stuff. A great buy of a thin all steel pistol at 220 with free two day shipping. It's a great gun for anyone looking for a cheaper full size handgun.

I hear you... I was just shooting mine last week... accurate, reliable. I was thinking what a good value it is. I actually really like the look, and the thinness.

I have a grip sleeve on mine now. Only complaint about mine is that the safety mechanism is extremely stiff. But, hey... I very rarely use safeties anyhow, so moot point.

Nice.
I have 1 Russian TT and a Yugo in 7.62.x25 and love them dearly.
Great shooting guns.
The M70 is looking better every day so I may have to add one.

Congrats! Very interesting guns.

That's nice, congratulations!
However, for range fun I still prefer it in 7.62 - this dog barks really loud!

Same. Love the noise and flash of the 7.62. A few rounds of it is also a great way to drive off people who don't have the courtesy to step away from the line when they want to carry on a long and loud conversation rather than shoot.

I've seen one of those at the local cabela's and have had it on my mind ever since. I used to own a norinco/navy arms tok In 7.62 and I loved it! Thinking this little 9mm may have to be the next buy, something a bit more ballsy for my wife to carry.

I've had one for a couple months now and love it! It always goes shooting with me. Accurate and the softest shooting 9mm I have. No hiccups at all. Removed the pesky mag disconnect and now the mags fly out when you press the mag release.

Got mine for $200 plus tax, and a couple of extra mags @ $9.95 from the local dealer. Solid gun, great value!

I'll be the dissenting voice. I bought one and was put off by the crudeness of it's manufacture, fit and finish were far below what I'm used to. I understand that it is a cheap gun, but I thought I saw a hammer and sickle down it's bore.

So in the commy nations things have no value, almost as little value as human life, and since everyone owns everything no one owns anything so why bother making it nice?
I was put off by the spring retention of the slide stop pin, and the swivel spring that holds the grips in place, well, one side broke off without provocation! The lathe turned full 'round the barrel for locking lugs put me off too, part of that "things don't matter" deal I figure. The trigger pull was worse than a P238's, which is pretty bad, I spent a good bit of time smoothing that out.

Those are all things I would reject in an Armscor gun, but of course Armscor makes well smoothed out guns for low prices and needn't worry about the Zastava competition.

For those who love them please forgive me, it is, again, a cheaply purchased effective enough handgun. Much better than a highpoint after all.

For those considering the purchase, please remember my words and look it over good first, many can live with, and even ignore, faults that others would not endure.

FWIW, I improved the trigger on mine A LOT simply by pulling it briskly (obviously unloaded!) 3 or 4 thousand times (while watching TV)... The steel surfaces get matched up and it becomes much smoother.

That can be done without cocking it.

Another related technique I use is to simply cock the gun (obviously unloaded), wad up (or nicely layer-fold) a tissue, place it between the hammer and firing pin, and then pull the trigger. The hammer falls on thick soft wadded tissue so there's no harm whatever to the hammer or firing pin. Cock the hammer again without racking the slide and repeat... As in the above, this can be done repeatedly hundreds of times to match up the steel surfaces and smooth out the action on a stiff new M70.

I never understood the allure of 9mm in guns designed for 7.62x25, be that tokarevs or cz52 ... except maybe now with surplus 7.62x25 drying out but the round is main draw of these guns

I like the M70A for a range gun, but have had 2 problems.
1) The clip on the take down pin "walked off" during several magazines in its initial firing session. I've replaced that clip and have had no problems again, yet. I'll want to run several hundred more rounds through it before I'm satisfied the problem is solved though.
2). I also had to drift the front sight to get it to shoot to POA.

I don't mind tinkering on my guns - rather enjoy it - so I'm satisfied with the gun for what it is: an inexpensive new pistol in the style of the Russian Tokarev design; finish typical of a mass produced "military" pistol; thin, all steel, accurate enough, and fun for range use.

I forgot that I had to drift the rear sight to adjust POI to my way of looking at things (I do on most guns).
I'll cede the point that it's not a finely sculptured work of art worthy of admiring glances, but it does what it's supposed to, and can probably be used to straighten bent parts on your tractor should the need arise. :)

I just bought one of these on GB last night, how do you fellas disable the magazine safety on yours? I've heard this allows drop free magazines to.

Just bought a Zastava 7.62x25 this year, and really pleased for the price. All steel, thin, accurate and easy to clean. One of those pistols that the grip fits my hand just right.

Trigger not the best, but does break in after awhile. Also had to adjust the rear site, couldn't get front sight to move. All kind of machining marks on the inside, but it wasn't bought to be purty. Will likely open up the rear site notch. Taking off the grips were a pain, but not likely to be done often.

Really like the ease of cleaning, the trigger pack comes right out. Decent blued finish.

Picking up a new M70A this afternoon, already got 5 extra mags from Apex.

Bout $250 for a brand new all steel, thin enough to carry pistol? Too inexpensive not to buy one. Can see $1000 carry pistols out there that can't be bothered to round off the butt of grip, making a clothes catcher.

I bought a spare magazine from Apex last night, might have to get another one! An M70A is on it's way to my LGS... I am literally shaking in my boots with excitement... I cannot wait for this pistol! I'm going to use it as dedicated car gun. Ten rounds of full-power 9mm +P+ hollowpoints should be PLENTY for anything I would need to defend against when using the car as a weapon is not an option, plus I have my J-frame .38 for CCW as my backup!

Just bought the M70A a week ago
I also have a 7.62x25 - Zastava M57.
I love both guns.

Ya, I'll admit it doesn't have the classic beauty lines of a 1960's S&W
(of which I have 2), but for a rough & tough, in-your-face, gun it works for me.

I haven't been able to get to the range with it yet (that's just KILLING me)

But I'm expecting it won't be much different
I've even tailored some 9mm ammo.
I think it'll be fun :D

I got a milsurp version in the Tok round, 7.62x25 and at the same time picked up a CZ52 chambered for the same round.

The Tok cartridge is a blast to shoot, and I really enjoy the Zastava. It is the ModelT of guns, but it goes bang every time.

It WAS disconcerting when, on my first strip, the entire fire control module plunked on the table! Neat idea though -makes field repair a snap.

The sights on mine are --uh-- utilitarian. Clearly they were not a thought-out design piece. But, for the $150 or whatever I paid for it, it can't be beat!

So happy you found yours!!

I had a ttc in 7.62x25 that was my woods guns for years, until the cheap ammo supply dried up. It was reliable, accurate and nothing could stop it except for an empty mag.

Love my Polish Tok in 7.62. I can still get ammo at the local gun shop but its American made and about $25 for 50 FMJ.

I think I still have the 9mm conversion barrel around here somewhere, I just put the 9mm rounds in the standard 7.62 mag. They slop around in there since the 7.62 is longer but it seems to feed them just fine.
