Z-M weapons

Did a search here, didn't find much. Gunshop had one, folding, five position stock, short barrel, 16 I think, funky plastic handguard, Picatinny rail etc.. Gunshop said it was all legal as long as you got a pre-ban lower. IS this all possible or just B.S-they were selling the "kit" for like 2k.

I know nothing about rifles, I am a huge handgun fanatic, and am starting to wander into rifles, help!!!! Are these junk or what???

ZM is not junk they are high end stuff.

I don't care for 223/5.56 round much but my basic philosophy if I ever buy one would be to get a cheap one [ie a Mini 14] or the top of the line [ie a ZM].

I don't think the ZM is for most people though, it isn't a true AR so the parts are not all interchangable. And it has a very high price tag.

You can check out ZM's web site http://www.zmweapons.com/

ZM is to AR-15s like what Shelby's 427 Cobra is to Sports Cars... Pure Bad Ass.
2,000 is a little spendy for it - I was thinking they are 16 to 18...

Do you have one George? I thought about it but just can't see myself buying a 223 that cost that much :)

If I was a LEO then I would get one to go with a M1A Scout. With the rifles in the trunk and the SG up front, but then I like to be overprepared :D :D :D

Like Gunslinger before he retired when on duty<clank...clank>

The ZM are in essence for the true enthusiast, which I admittdly, and sadly am not. :( I am more in tune with the Mini 14/556 buyer purely due to limited budget.
I too, am like you, "limited" in my scope of knowledge which is focused on the primarily handguns.
While not a Y2K only POJ (piece of junk) it is (as George said) PBA (pure bad ass). But do you want to spend big bucks on something that in the end will require spending even more to make one "pre-ban legal"?

THanks guys-I really like that thing-is there something wrong w/.223??? I know its not the end-all in accuracy but I was thinking cheap ammo. IS getting pre-ban lowers etc. hard and $$$$??? Hope you are still reading this post its the first time I could get back to it. Thanks again.

Do I have one? No.
I have seen and fired and played with several. All WONDERFUL guns. All very very expensive.
And in the end - all still AR-15s. Now - if they did that trick to an FAL... I would have no choice but to buy one.

If you are going to spend that kind of money maybe look at HK-91,FN-FAL,M1A or something comparable.

22's are cute if you are into collecting miniatures ;)

The ZM conversion is just the ticket if you are spending someone else's money. ;) As already stated, if its your hard-earned cash there are probably better ways to spend it. ZM's folding stock is totally primo; the one I handled closed like a bank vault door. Solid.

funinsun, I don't know where you got the impression that .223 is not accurate, but I guess you need to tell the Army Marksmanship Unit guys. With the match-grade barrels available for the M16/AR family nowadays, the mousegun shooters clean up on the M1 and M14 shooters. Its not uncommon for heavy-barreled ARs to shoot sub-MOA without any tuning, and they don't have any bedding to deteriorate.

um guys, pardon the stupid newbie-ish question here, but uh...

Where the devil do the put the buffer spring on those folders? Some kinda interdimensional wormhole thingie to an AR stock back at the factory, or what?

The recoil spring runs from the upper reciever forward. The ZM conversion replaces the upper, the gas assembly, the recoil spring assembly, and the front grip, as well as the buttstock.
