Who here has experience with the preban or postban versions of the Z-M Weapons LR300 conversion for the AR-15? For inquiring minds, it's a gas-piston conversion for the AR-15 that allows for a folding stock as well. It looks really cool, but it expensive.

Visit Z-M Weapons HERE.

Here are some pics.

The Military/LE version, with 11.5" barrel. Note the stock. It folds AND has adjustable length of pull.

The Post-Ban fixed stock version. Has a 16.5" crowned or compensated barrel. A Post-Ban folding stock version is also available, with a funny "horizontal grip" in place of the pistol grip. It looks ungainly, but if you really MUST have a folding stock...

So? Opinions? Cool or uncool?

Why is there a big sight block sitting in front of the optics?

My guess would be that that setup is not very practical for sniping ;)

According to several of my trusted sources, the LR-300 has problems with any kind of sustained full auto fire. The gas system overheats somehow and the the gun fails. I would have to check back with my sources to get more specific info.

Ok...First of all I dont know why Allan has those beautiful weapons and then takes a picture of them with "Pro-Point" Optics! Its like putting neon plastic windshield wipers on a Jaguar.

I have tested the ZM and M4's side by side, and can tell you for a fact that the ZM outperformed the M4.

ZM also is not plagued with the same gas problems that short barrelled AR-15's (anything less than 14.5 inches) are. Allan has a video showing an 11.5 inch shooting sub MOA with standard green tips (5 shot group).

The full auto version is capable of 950rmp. Since the recoil system is above the barrel and it pulls the carrier back into battery vs. pushing it in standard M4's....it counteracts the muzzle rise and reduces felt recoil, keeping you right on target for controlled pairs.

Viper,

I'd like to know where you got your information.

I like it. But then again, I've always liked it. I just can't afford it right now. Which doesn't explain why I dumped a ton of money into an M4 upper will all the bells and whistles, but that's another story.

Viper, I would also like to hear details about the full auto. A friend of mine is looking to mount one on an m16.

Bear Hunter, we need to see more pic's like the bottom one. Is that a Ambi or RH Ergo grip? How do you like it? I've got an ambi on the way.

And you made the right stock choice. Most won't pony up the $350 for the collapsable folding stock, but IMHO it's the only way to go. The folding wire stock is usless except for storage.

Redhook,

Thats an Ergo grip that I put on. I like it a lot, it gives it a different type of look and the weapon feels good with it.

Thanks Bear Hunter!

You've refreshed my memory and desire to build up a ZM. Damn that looks good. I guess I'd better start counting my loose change.

It looks like you've got the right hand Ergo grip. Have you ever tried griping it left handed? Is it awkward? That's kind of the reason that ordered the ambidexterous Ergo grip. Besides, I like to take my dad out shooting when he comes to town and he's a south paw.

Thanks again. Now I've got to go clean up all the drool...

KPS,

Yes...barrels are chrome lined and it also has the M4 feed ramps. I am getting incredible accuracy with this rifle and aimpoint. I suspect it would be even better if I scoped it.

Red,

Your right, it is a R-Ergo grip. Its not really akward at all gripping with the left hand.

You All have a good Christmas!
