Yugo M70 AB2 underfolder

I called Century Arms and spoke to someone who was supposedly a Yugo AK knowledgeable person. I asked him a simple question. Can I shoot steel case ammo in my Yugo M70 ab2 and not harm the rifle? He would not give a straight answer, he only said brass was the best and steel case would be ok from time to time. Again I asked, "Will it harm my rifle"? And again he would not give a yes or no answer! My local gunsmith said don't shoot it becasue it would ruin the chamber and wear it out! What? Is this true? Somebody help because brass ammo is high and I just plain do not like corrossive due to the cleaning process!

While brass is better, there are 10's of millions real AKs (w/ da switch) around the world shooting steel cased with nary a problem for the last 50 years or so. Chances are 99.9% you're good to go. But... it is a Century build... so ya never know (I kid...)

Feed it whatever you can fund, be it brass, steel or... it's an AK and should not need to be mollycoddled. It needs to be shot. A lot.

ETA, welcome to TFL

I shoot nothing but steel cased ammo in my Century M70B1 (the yugo with the fixed stock). Never had a problem. And while I have been keeping an eye on parts like the extractor I have never noticed any change or ill effect from shooting wolf.

In short these rifles are assembled from quality parts from oversea's that where designed to be used with steel cased ammo. Shoot away because any problems that you will encounter will problably be from a poor assembly job on Century's part not from the ammo.

I shoot steel in my M70 all day long with zero issues. I've fired thousands of steel rounds and my chamber's just fine. If you believe that it would ruin your chamber, I'd still fire it and take all the savings and buy a new rifle!

Steel case is just fine in AK patterns, its when its in ARs and others not designed for it that you can get problems.

it CAN be but usually doesn't cause any premature wear. the important thing is not to shoot steel and brass in the same trip without cleaning the chamber. I also had an AR that short stroked with steel because the case doesn't expand to seal the chamber-the same reason you don't shoot steel and then brass.

the important thing for this thread is it's G2G in an AK

Guys and possibly Gals....who know's, but anyway thanks for the quick responses. It makes me feel a lot better about shooting Wolf in my Yugo!

That's the most important thing. Steel by itself is fine

Ok guys I have another question about my Yugo M70 AB2. The gas tube is pitted. I'm guessing this is built on a Yugo parts kit that had corrossive ammo shot through it, but I don't know. Also where the gas piston attaches to the bolt carrier, it rattles and is a little loose. I cleaned everything really good. Is this normal and do I need a new piston tube?

I don't know man, you can use a 12GA brush to get the crap out, but as far as a loose piston you'll have to ask a Yugo AK expert
