Yugo AK (CAI) long term use?

Yes. I did. It was an accurate rifle, it didn't lose accuracy during the period I had it. I could shot a bleach or detergent bottle from kneeling at 350 yards with it, which according to my reckoning is a headshot at that range.

I probably shot 60 to 90 rounds at a session and cleaned it before putting it away. I did not shoot all 1000 rounds without cleaning the rifle.

I did not have any issues that weren't ammo related.
 
Never buy from CAI is my opinion. I bought 3 ak's and 1 feeds, ejects and shoots, one of them the bolt carries rubs so hard on the rear sight block you have to force the piston into the gas tube, so basically 2 of the 3 I bought are thumb loaded single shots, no matter the mag or lube or bolt carrier or piston or gas tube. And if your brand new Century Arms AK doesn't work, too bad, their attitude seems to be , your bought it it's your problem now. I will never, never ever buy from CAI again. They are out and out thieves. But if you like those odds (1 out of 3) you'll get a working firearm, go for it.
 
I have a M70B1. It hasn't ever malfunctioned. But I also clean it every time I shoot it.

Seems to me like a lot of people get the "I'll just treat it like crap because it can handle it" mentality when dealing with AK's. Then they bash the gun because it malfunctions when they haven't cleaned it in a year.


Century quality control is hit or miss. However if you can inspect the rifle before you purchase it you can get a good shooter.
 
father time, I love the quote that you have. I had a m70 no malfunctions. Just because the rifle is designed to handle something, doesn't mean it should be put through it. The ak is designed to go through hell and back, it doesn't mean any one should do that to a rifle.
 
Although the Yugo must be in 7.62x39, you might want to read the problems encountered by "Sturmgewehre" at THR, or elsewhere (even on Youtube months ago).

Century's warranty begins when they ship from their factory. If the rifle sits for months in a gun shop before you buy it, your warranty is much shorter than you might have assumed. US "Consumer Protection laws" either allow this situation, or Century has never been successfully sued.
But that was Not his real problem.

His AK-74 (5.45x39) Tantal 'keyholed' at 100 yards, and Century was well aware that many barrels' bores were 5.56, instead of 5.45.
They somehow decided to replace his barrel with the correct type, but the vast majority of owners seem to have been stuck with barrels which have very over-sized bores.
 
I purchased 2 Romanian (wasr's 10/63's) from CAI. They are supposed to be the bottom of barrel low end AK's and I have shot thousands of rounds out of both, and have never had any kind of jam or problem. I have only been able to shoot them out to 100 yards so far and they have both been plenty combat accurate. They might not look as nice as the higher end AK'S as far as fit and finish, but they work just as good as any AK out there, at least mine do. I'am not speaking for all WASR's because I don't know. My friend also has one and it works just as well as mine.
 
I'm gonna take my newly acquired Yugo M70 AB2 underfolder out this week and shoot it. I will give a range report.

That problem could've been avoided by simply buying the better and not-to-mention less expensive Russian rifle in the first palce but the latest reports regarding CAI 74's is that they are all good to go now. :eek:
 
They used US barrels for the 922 compliance. Its legal BS.

The 7.62x39 barrels from century have not had any of these problems. Just the canted sight issue.
 
I don't know if CAI puts more (or less) time into the RPK variants they get, but my AES-10B has exceeded my expectations. Sights are dead on and I can hit a man-sized target off the bipod and iron sights at 350 yards without trying. When I first got it, I did need to put two magazines through it to have it cycle properly (my wife's P238 did the same thing, so I had to give it the benefit of the doubt). I think CAI really is on the up and up, but you get the people (that DO ONE SCATHING POST and that's it) that make it seem like they're a bunch of monkeys.


As with any gun....

INSPECT IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!! regardless of who it came from! Luckily for me, I am blessed with having an outstanding gun shop (5280 armory) near my house, that typically sell at or below internet prices with a gianormous AK and AR selection. :)
 
Ok Guys! I went to the range with my newly acquired Yugo AB2 underfolder and wow does it shoot great! The only complaint is the underfolding stock does not give as good of a cheek weld as the fixed stock versions. To my suprise from the bench at 25 yards I was getting well under 1" groupings. At 50 yards I was able to push out an average of 1" groupings. Now I know it's no tack driver and was not intended to be. I didn't have enough daylight to get the 100 yard groupings, but it was very consistant out to 50 yards hitting point of aim when I would do my part. If I do my part I think 2 to 2 1/2" groups at 100 yards are possible. By the way that Tapco trigger is really sweet!
