Yugo 24/47 Mauser (same as Czech VZ-24) question

AIM is selling Yugo Model 24/47 rifles (they say its the same as the Czech VZ-24 Mauser) for $69 for good to very good, $89 for excellent. I was looking at sporterizing a Mauser (preferribly a true 98 and not a Turk), will this rifle accept standard Mauser aftermarket parts (stocks and prethreaded barrels)? I'm just looking at getting one of those synthetic stock and barrel packages from MidwayUSA for $90-something plus some smith work (turn down the bolt and mount the barrel, maybe some trigger work).

Thanks,
Kharn

I recently picked up a yugo 24-47 mauser in unissued condition with all the goodies for 149.00. I was gonna get the m48 but I liked the look and slightly different feel of the 24-47. I have no plans of sporterizing it, it's a beautiful rifle. I also am curious of your question as I have heard that they are all refurbished vz-24's.

I beleve that is correct on being a refinished VZ rifle. Or possabably a Yugo purchase export VZ refinish.

Kharn - yes, the vz24 is a Czech-manufactured model 98. The Yugo M24/47 is not the same as the vz-24, but is similar. The M24/47s were Yugo model 24s reconditioned after WWII.

A few differences: the vz24 has two sets of sling swivels, which are of different size than the single set on the M24/47. The M24/47 has a hooded front sight. The barrel bands are different. The rear sight is slightly different.

The action on my m24/47 is nowhere near as smooth as my vz24’s.

Happy shootin.
