Your setup for IDPA?

As stated in the title, what do you guys use for IDPA?

I will be running:
-1911 (still at gunsmith's)
-Kirkpatrick TSS
-Kirkpatrick 1.5" belt
-Kirkpatrick Compact Single Holder x 2

I am also deciding on the setup for my Glock 22, so if anyone else is running a Glock, please chime in!

I run a:
Blackhawk riggers belt
Taurus 24/7 in 40 S&W
blackhawk serpa holster
Fobus double magazine holder

I just got yesterday a brand new FNX 9
For that I will be running a:
Don Hume leather holster
Don hume single mag pouch

Currently
Colt 1991A1 9mm ESP as modified.
Bison Belt knockoff of Wilderness Instructor's belt.
Ready Tac paddle holster and mag carriers (Kydex.)
9mm subsonic handloads; 135 gr bullet, moving to 147.

I run my standard, every day carry rig. It makes no difference what that is, just so it is what you rely on for self defense. IDPA is designed for you to train in the most realistic scenarios and equipment possible. Tricked out guns and rigs mean absolutely nothing unless that is what you carry constantly. For those wanting to "game" the competition, try one of the other type competitions (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with those). If you want to actually test and improve yourself, shoot IDPA like it was intended. Remember, IDPA was started by some of the originators of IPSC because it had strayed so far from practicality. Please don't take offense at my comments, they are not directed at anyone, just a reminder of what IDPA is REALLY about.

This is one opinion. The other, is that IDPA is not, ever has been, or pretended or claimed to be SD training. Equip yourself and shoot IDPA matches as you see fit, but get formal SD training if that's your gig.

As to the OP, I shoot a revolver, but I use a CompTac (holster), ReadyTac (speedloader holders), and Wilderness Instructor 1.5" belt (with polymer backing for extra stiffness). FWIW, I have CC'd this very setup.

When I shot at the mini-matches they used to hold locally, I used my Carry rig.... basicly walked in off the street, paid the entry/range fee, bought a box of range ammo, and went to the ready room and changed out my carry ammo for the FMJ's .....

"The other, is that IDPA is not, ever has been, or pretended or claimed to be SD training."

I'll bet that's a surprise to Mr. Hackathorn and Mr. Wilson! Although I will agree that training it is not, practice it is. No matter, it is one heck of a fine game, shoot it like you prefer, have fun, but at the very least, shoot and practice.:)

Granted, IDPA is a shooting game. But, one thing it does teach/require that pertains to any legitimate civilian/police/military training is you have to use cover. That will help everytime should you become involved in a real life self defense shooting situation. Regarding your equipment set up, I'd suggest to keep it simple. A good quality holster/mag holder for your choice of handgun, and good eye and hearing protection. It's not a complicated game.

Looks like we have quite a variety...

It's good that 9mm1033 mentioned protection: what are you guys sporting right now? I have an old pair of Adidas and I usually wear the Peltor green/yellow plugs. I've been told that I should get a "wrap around" style eye protection, but I am not very knowledgeable in that area.

Also, MrBorland, have you compared the comptac to bladetechs? If so, how do they compare and which do you prefer?

One thing I never understood about IDPA is the arbitrary percentages and power floors. Why 50% cover? Why consider power floors? Wouldn't consistent penetration and expansion make much more sense? (I am hinting at hollow point design) The way I see it is that I'd much rather take a quality hollow point 9mm that doesn't make power floor over a +P+ 9mm. This isn't a critique, but an inquiry. I just want to know: what criteria were considered when establishing these? Anyway, that's the end of my rant.

By the way, anyone here run Glocks?
