I'm sure this question has been addressed before,but I missed it. I'm not trying to resurrect any old,already-talked-to-death controversies either. I really am just wondering: In your opinion,which is the best overall shotgun [especially in terms of reliability and trouble-free maintenance] for home defense: Remington 870 or Mossberg 590 ? Thanks guys !
 
It's a big preference question. The Mossberg seems more popular on this forum BUT the Remington seems more popular on others. The Mossberg is issued by the military WHEREAS the Remington is the dominant LE issue gun.

I compared both and went with the Remington. It's action felt ALOT smoother than the Mossberg. I've had no problems with it and feel I made a good decision.
 
I did a search on "mossberg vs remington" just for the jollies and turned up 112 threads on the subject. Why not just read a few of those? This really, truly has been discussed to death ad infinitum, ad nauseam. And guess what? There is no real answer. You pays yo' money and you takes yo' choice. Either will be fine. Some like the features of one some like the features of the other.

I wouldn't feel under armed with either.

A better area to investigate would be some training.

Seriously, go to a LGS and see which one has better fit and ergos for you. Both companies make great guns. Both let lemons out the door. When you've bought it, buy ammo and get training. You'll be fine.
