Hi guys. My friend and I are ina debate, and any help is appreciated. Im about to buy a new pistol(probably a ruger P-90) and my friend says to go with the blued finish, but I think the stainless is better. I assume Stainless is more rust resistant. My friend says to go with the blued finish because SS scratches too easly......so Im clueless on which to go with. I know this is a matter of personal prefrence, but does one finish have an advantage over the other?? WHat are the pros and cons??? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I am also looking at a Ruger 45 except I am looking at the KP97. Ruger makes a very durable stainlees steel. I have a KGP-141 that doesn't have any scratches in it. But if you do happen to get some scratches, supposedly they can be removed with a Scotch Brite pad. I would suggest the stainless P90.

Blue steel scratches just as easy as SS, if not easier!
The only blue steel advantage I can think of is thats its more stealth. Other than that SS is superior. Go with stainless.

A lot of correct info on both sides here. Stainless probably does scratch easier because it is softer than carbon steel, but SS can be polished to remove scratches and still look good. The steel in blue guns is harder, wears a bit longer but a good SS gun can last for 100k rounds with good maintenance. SS is very rust resistant, but not rust-proof. Gun makers tweak the SS steel recipe to make the steel harder and that makes it less rust resistant... but it's still much better than regular steel for rust. I have 5 SS guns and I prefer them to blue.

Both of my Ruger P series are SS as you can see, and are very duriable. I would say that the finish sould be a personal taste IMO.

You cant go wrong either way. Carbon steel is good steel. I prefer the blued more. I do like stainless, my 5.5" SS Redhawk came out looking like an Ultimate Python (On steroids), after a couple months in front of the TV with some flitz and a rag...but for some reason I do prefer the blue more. Probably the stealth factor.
When they're both laying on a table, which one would you or did you pick up first? Thats the one you should buy.

Just to let you know, I have heard that the SS slides of the P-Series pistols are prone to rusting.

Actually, I have first hand knowledge as my P-95's slide is prone to slight rusting if not given the occasional once over with a preventative. Once or twice a week is all that is neccessary, so it's not that big a deal. Just something to be aware of...
