I favor education in politics... yet have my kids in a private school. I have not thought much about vouchers - but I think I like the idea.
 
I sure wish there were vouchers back when my in-laws were sending their kids to parochial school. Five kids (including my wife) at $2000 a year each. And on the earnings of a garbage truck driver! Of course, my in-laws had to pay their taxes for public schools on top of that. :mad:

My old pickup does not "pollute" because I keep it tuned. I like the idea of guns in the hands of any responsible youth under proper parental supervision.
Who benefits first from the reality of emancipation of "urban youth" from the grip of government monopoly in education via vouchers? You know who I'm talking about.

A member of the New York City Council discovered recently that all the
walls in a school she inspected had been painted up to 10 feet above the
floor, with the rest of the walls and the ceilings being left unpainted.

Why? Because there is a rule that the custodians can paint only the first
10 feet, with the rest being left to be painted by the painters -- when they
get around to it.

In other words, the schools are treated like a political pork barrel that is
divided up for the benefit of the various unions. Putting more pork in the
barrel does not mean that you are going to get better educated children.
With public schools carved up into various fiefdoms and tied up in tons of
red tape, the last thing the teachers' unions want is competition from
private schools that don't have all this baggage to hold them back. No
wonder the NEA is going all out to stop parents from having vouchers
that would give them a choice of where to send their children to school.

Unfortunately, Republicans have a terrible record of letting the
Democrats get away with fishy arguments about how vouchers would
drain money from the public schools. Think about it: If 10 percent of the
students leave the public schools and take 10 percent of the money with
them, how is that reducing the amount of money per student in the public
schools?

This argument insults our intelligence by assuming that we can't do
arithmetic. On the other hand, after years of dumbed-down education,
maybe a lot of people can't. But have you ever heard a Republican
answer that argument against vouchers? Nonsense can fly if you don't
shoot it down.

Actually, when 10 percent of the students leave the public schools with
vouchers, less than 10 percent of the money leaves with them, because
vouchers do not pay as much as the public schools spend per pupil. Even
so, teachers' unions are going all-out to stop vouchers, because any
competition threatens to expose both the public schools' failures and their
excuses for failure.

I still think that a liberal is a conservative that hasn't been mugged yet.
I know of a lawyer who was big on prison reform and prisoners rights--he was the president of this do gooding group.One day he was busy patronising a crim who suddenly had enough of him--and punched him out,breaking his nose.
Guess what? He dumped the do gooding and went back to proper work.

9. If you have no problem in partial birth abortion, yet will faint at the thought of a sea turtle egg being broken.

11. If you think Waco was for the good of those children who were burned to death.

12. If you can't define "is".

13. If you truly think public schools are OK for other people, yet you send your kids to private or religious schools.

14. If you think the government should raise other people's children.

If you decry the lack of funding for AIDS research, National Endowment for the Arts, and, Public Television right before you get a whole body exfoliating scrub and complete hair, make-up and nails, then hop in a Limo wearing a $50K dress (tux) you'll never wear again and $100K worth of jewels to go to a multi million dollar awards show where you will recieve a $8K "gift" basket for reading 5 names and chucking a gold statue of a naked guy at someone who is just as shallow as you before you go to a 1/2 million dinner that will throw out $250K of food at the end of the night, to rub elbows with someone who wants to pay you $6 million to do a movie where you show your coochie and shoot off about a million rounds of blanks through guns that a real shooter would die for but has no chance in hell of ever touching, let alone owning, while you model the worst possible gun handling and break all 4 rules of firearm safety plus a couple more before the opening credits are finished, so that Rosie will ask you onto her show so you can talk about how Clinton is great, conservatives are mean, and how every thing would be all better if there was more gun control and higher taxes to fund more jars of urine with crosses in them.
