So yeah, today I was doing skeet and trap shooting at work and I have a question for starting out what brand of a shotgun would you recommend ?? (Im looking for something cheap) :D
 
Typically, Trap and Skeet guns are vastly differentgames in both stocking and ribs. Not that you can't shoot Trap with a "field" type gun, it is just that Trap guns are made to shoot somewhat higher than where you are looking. The other problem is if you get serious about either game, you might want a gun that has proven abilities and will hold up to the thousands of shots you will make. Cheap is often great in the short run, but, in the long run, replacing it or having a gunsmith fix it could be money foolishly spent.
 
For both games on a budget, you can't go wrong with a starter semi auto such as a Remington 1100, 11/87, Winchester Super X2.....etc. All have barrels that will suit you and are serviceable at the local level.
 
I know that money well spent count, thats true. But I just want some to shoot for time to time, nothing crazy. What do you guys think about walmart shotguns by the way ??
 
I didn't want to necessarily recommend a particular gun to you,,, but,, the Remingtons are great guns and I think Wally sells them too.
 
Nothing beats the versatility of a pump shotgun. The Remington 870 has been around since the 1950s I believe, and has proven to be a cheap but extremely reliable shotgun for law enforcement, Home Defense, and Sporting purposes. You can also try Mossberg too. I got my Remington 870 Express Magnum for 279.

Edit: I don't think Wal-Mart's guns differ from other places that sell guns. Wal-Mart doesn't have their own brand of firearms LOL! Although I heard they cut gun sales out in a 3rd of their stores. I hope that doesn't happen here in Alaska.

Well, you said cheap and occasional. That means an economy PUMP.

1. Remington 870
2. Mossberg 500/590 or 835
3. Winchester 1200/1300
4. Benelli Nova

or on a really tight budget, snag one of the Charles Dalys, or one of the hundreds of old cheap discontinued pump guns seen at any gun show from Stephens, etc., under $175 if you look around.

They will all work.

If you want a semi-auto but can't afford one from BerretaRemBrowNelliChester, then look at the NEF Excel Auto 5, Mossberg 930 (not 935), the Charles Daly, or the CZ 712.

Accoutant at the range? Sure, someones got to keep track of the number of clay birds left.
 
Maverick 88 field. Sold at every wal-mart i've been to at a price of $137-$149 brand new.

This is a kind of clone of the mossberg 500 but it is produced by mossberg, and will do everything that the 500 will do at about 60 bucks cheaper (I own both a 500 and an 88)

It takes mossberg barrel, stocks, and chokes. Get the field model, and then go buy a skeet or open cylinder choke for it. I've noticed that the modified shoots pretty tight for a modified and the skeet shoots really tight for a skeet choke, but it works.

use the mod. for trap and the skeet for skeet and your set. Total cost of gun and choke should be about 160 dollars.

that's about the cheapest you can do buying new and the maverick 88 is actually a fine gun to boot, 100% reliable in my experience and a great first shotgun.
 
If you want reliable and moderate price look at the used beretta 390 and if you can find one a used Italian 3901 great guns IMHO
