You know what rifles I'd really like?

How about a nice, sturdy, reliable .308 bullpup, based on the AK gas system (for utter reliability), but more finely tuned a bit, for accuracy and less parts wear, that CAN BE USED BY US LEFTIES (becuase not all of us can shoot accurately from the right shoulder, especially since many of us, like myself, are left eye dominant...they could use the system they use in the FAMAS or Steyr AUG rifles, for instance), and accepts readily available FAL magazines. IT could have interchangable barrels like the AUG, in 16", 20", and 24" lengths, a good set of iron sights, plus a see-through optics mount.

Also, since belt fed semiautos are legal and BATF-approved (according to an ad in the Shotgun News, selling semiauto M60 and Browning M1919 clones for thousands of dollars) how about making a light semiauto that uses a disentegrating mettalic link belt? You could make 'em in .308 and .223, but also use cartridges that are rimmed and tapered, like the 7.62x54mmR (as the Russians do in their PKM machine gun) and even .30-30 WCF. You could carry as many or as few rounds on your belt as you'd prefer, and could get plastic or canvas ammo-belt holders like they have for most manportable machine guns these days. It could be made to fire from a closed bolt, for accuracy, or an open bolt, for rapid cooling. And, as with any rifle, I'd like an easy to change barrel (preferably without tools) available in various lengths.

And while I"m at it...

Why doesn't somebody make an inexpensive 9mm carbine, sort of like the Hi-Point (a pretty rugged little gun, actually) that takes STEN magazines? I mean, STEN mags are abundant and insanely cheap (though if one of these became popular, they'd probably dry up fast) and you could sell the gun plus magazine for like two hundred bucks.

And how about a .45 carbine to make use of all those Grease Gun, MAC-10/45, or Thompson magazines floating around out there?

Aren't Sten mags hard to load? That would be a problem for plinkers.

IMHO, the best 9mm carbine would be one that shared the magazines of a pistol I already own and loaded them through the pistol grip for compactness.

How about a Hi-Point carbine in .45 ACP that takes 1911 mags? I have buckets of those.
