You got to have friends....

As Bette Midler once sang, you got to have friends. At a cookout last weekend I casually asked an LEO friend about a couple of places to shoot. The conversation turned to guns and shooting in general, and the fact that several women in the group said they carried led to a neat effect -- in the car on the way home, my wife finally agreed she ought to get her own carry permit. Till now she always thought of it as a "guy thing".

Only problem is that her Ruger P95 house gun is a bit big for carry and her purse already weighs a ton, so we'll probably have to go gun shopping again... AWWWWWWWWW.....what a pity!

Unsolicited advice:

When taking the wife gun shopping you should remember that she's probably going to view the shopping process in the same way she would view the shopping process for, say, a pair of shoes. While things like ergonomics, caliber, make and mag capacity mean a lot to you, she's shopping for an "accessory" and the "look" is as important as anything else for her. My wife really likes the little Berettas and it will probably be my next purchase. I'm tired of trying to convince her she needs more firepower and I've come to realize she's not judging by the same criteria I am.

A little gun is better than no gun (I think). And it would most likely lead to acquiring a larger calibre later on.

Y'all don't know Thelma. Way more practical than style-conscious. It was she who picked out the P95, and no one ever accused Ruger of being fashion mavens.

The women in the group all said they carry 2" .38 special revolvers, maybe this is a "girl thing"? I might steer Thelma toward the Taurus Titanium .38's, just wish they made one with a hammer shroud like the S&W bodyguards. For obvious reasons we will not be shopping S&Ws.

David,
If it's a used S&W then why would it matter?
S&W would not see one dime from the purchase of a used gun.

I don't like the idea of buying the product of a company that will soon be out of business, either.

I would offer that the SIG 232 is a very stylish gun, especially with a nice set of Pau Fero or Cocobolo grips from Hogue (no cracks about lemon Pledge for the furniture, please) Good ergonomics, extremely reliable & accurate, weights in at just over a lb. empty, and packs a pretty good punch with CoBons or H/S's.
