Yes, I'm a noob... (price question)

I want to know what would be a normal ammount to pay for a Glock 22 40SW with a 15 round clip.

I have one already, but it is my duty weapon, and I want to make sure that when I buy one to carry off duty, that I am not getting robbed.

They are $499.00 around here (KY). After tax - $530.00. It comes with 2 15 round magazines. The magazines have gone up a little bit. They are around $30.00 each now.

If you're an LEO Glock has an individual officer purchase program with a decent discount, check their web site. Also check Bud's Gun Shop's LE web site, they have them for $430 delivered inc 3 mags, add 3% if you use a credit card.
Before buying the 22 I'd suggest looking at the 27, it's a more compact version of the same gun. It's a little lighter and much easier to conceal. It comes with 9rd mags but it will take your 15rd duty mags also.

If a LEO then many gun shops have LEO/Military only deals which can be good for getting up to $50 off the purchase price.
Check the gun store web sites for price checks.

Greg, I do not want to make any enemies on this website, but don't treat me like I'm an idiot just because you had a bad day or something. Tell me to call it a magazine, but don't talk down to me.

I wasn't meaning to talk down to you. I trust that you are not an idiot. And I didn't really have a bad day. Sorry if you took offense. I didn't know it was such a big deal, so I suppose we can call it whatever we want. Again, my apologies.

If you are currently a law enforcement officer then you probably qualify to purchase a new Glock at a discount from one of the Glock dealers who handles LE discounts in your area.

I haven't looked at the discounted prices lately but the last time I checked, base models (no night sights) were just under $400.

Well, in my jaded and biased opinion, even with a steep discount for being a LEO you are getting ripped off.
How many of you Glockaholics remember the Forbes magazine article from late last year about how the Glock pistol costs under $99 to manufacture?

When us civvies pay $500 or such for a Glock it is amortizing what Glock loses as the LOWEST CONTRACT BIDDER on department bid weapons to agencies.

In other words, they lose money on every law enforcement agency bid they win and they make it up by sticking it to you guys who want to carry the same gun the cops carry.

Go ask your chief what the department pays for a new Glock and you will understand what I am saying here.

Ironically, the major reason Glock won all those police contracts was because it was the lowest contract bidder in the first place.

And those of us who prefer a more traditional gun made of metal are paying hefty premiums because other manufacturers figure if a sucker will pay $500 or more for some injected moulded plastic, they will pay twice that for a real gun made out of steel.

The Buisness Week article on Glock lists them as making typically a 68% profit on guns or it costs them about $300 for a $500 gun. There are more cost to a gun than just the ($99) cost to manufacture it. Microsoft has almost no cost to make a software copy but many other costs go into producing that software for sale. I certainly would not say, Glock could not charge less, and they do charge less for their guns when making bulk sales or for LEO discounts and the like, but in the end it comes down to what are people willing to spend. Last winter many were willing to spend close to $600 on a Glock now it is closer to $500. There are lots of other guns out there for sale it is a very competitive market.

I agree with the previous posters who suggested summitgunbroker or aimsurplus for G22s. I'd consider a third generation gun though. If you're off-duty, consider a compact or subcompact, I agree.

On the profit of the manufacture vs. how much retail is, I think it's the free market - let market forces drive selection and adoption. Their price point (for civvies) is decent and lower than higher-end/priced brands such as H&K and Sig.

The reason why I want to buy a Glock model 22, is because I carry one on duty, and I am required to carry a duty-sized and a BUG while I am off duty. I want to stick with Glock because that is what I am used to, but I wanted to know the price so I knew if I was getting ripped off or not. by the way, I am in the Tampa Bay area.

Who are you working for that REQUIRES a duty weapon AND a BUG when you're off duty??!! I've been around a while and I've never heard of such a requirement from any agency. What do you carry for a BUG when you're ON duty?

As I pointed out earlier in the thread, your best deal on new guns is robably going to be from Bud's. $430 is a good price for a new Glock 22

Also, if you've already got a 22 for a duty gun why don't you just carry it off duty also? Then you can spend your money on a 27 to back it up.....

I live in the Tampa Bay area, but I'm not going to mention the agency, because we are seen as very paranoid, and I dont want the agency to look even worlse. I carry a Glock model 27 while off duty, but now we are required to carry two guns. Our department doesn't want us to carry our duty weapons off duty. They have weird rules, but at least I have a job, and that is what matters to me. lol.
