YEE FRIGGING HAW! Just filled in a big gap in my collection!

Just sprang on a circa 1983 Smith & Wesson Model 24-3 in .44 Special!

I have wanted one of these for a LONG time, but have never been able to find one in Norther Virginia at either a decent price or in decent condition.

This one is kind of expensive, $389 (I did a "buy now" on Gunbroker.com), but that is significantly less than what these normally go for in Northern Virginia.

Hopefully the described condition (didn't have a picture) is what I'll be getting, but the vendor has 156 A+ rankings, so that gives me a bit more confidence in what I'm getting.

For some reason, while I've got virtually no interest in .44 Magnum, I've always wanted a .44 Spl., and now I've got it.

Very nice gun! I love the tapered barrel look on the Model 24s. Congratulations, and make sure you post a picture once you get the gun.

What barrel length, hammer/trigger, square butt or round? Maybe just post a picture when you get it. If it's in the right condition the price sounds ok to me. Hope it's as advertised.

6.5" barrel, target trigger, target hammer, patridge front sight, square butt.

7,500 made from 1983 to 1984.

A friend of mine recently purchased one of the 3" versions made for Lew Horton.

Gudonya, Mike!

Damn, I didn't even know there was any such animal as a Model 24. The only 44 Spls I heard of were the antique triple locks and stuff. 44 Spl was a caliber that never really caught on for some reason.

Enjoy yer new piece! :)

I bought one back in the late 80's. Traded it away like a dummy.
That was back when magnums were the rage. I think I paid $290 for it new, back then.

Nice find Mike.

Nice catch!

I came this close to buying one of the three-inchers to go with my 629. Made some excuse about being responsible or something and passed it up. Been kicking myself ever since.

Jeeze Mike, 2 real scores in less than a month, leave some for the rest of us peons K? :D

All kidding aside, sounds like a real gem, even though I'm 180 degrees outta phase with you. I have little interest in the .44 special, but go ape over the .44 mag.

Good for you, Mike!

I've been casually looking for one of those for myself, too. Had one of the Lew Horton 3-inchers for a while, but it just didn't suit me. The classic old .44 Spl needs a 4" or longer barrel, in my mind.

Considering how few of that model were made, the price you paid sounds quite good. I'd sure pay it, given the chance!

Best,
Johnny

G,

There's also a 624, a stainless version of the Model 24.

The .44 Spl's. biggest problem is that it was introduced in 1907, after the big age of handguns in the old west.

It was respectably popular, without a doubt, though.

All in all I actually would have preferred a 4", as I favor that length barrel, but no way in hell was I going to turn this down.

Well, hell, Mike, that 4" Model 24 can be the next on yer list of "Gottahavits." ;)

Give you something to look forward to.
