Yeah I just bought a new raging bull 454 casull black SS. what do you guys think of the gun and the power. And what is the highest load for the 454 I know corbon makes 360gr. I have some 260gr. and some 335gr. Thanks

I don't know a whole lot about the .454 Cassull. Have you shot it yet? What are your impressions? I'm sure someone will answer your questions eventually, though.

I also dont know much about the 454, but i searched around for a few minutes, and it appears that 360gr is the highest 'factory/standard' bullet weight. in fact, i checked a few powder manufacturer sites (Hogdon, etc) and none even listed data for 360gr. 300 was the highest shown, so looks like 360 is about it.
I work with a guy who has a 454 and he loves it. says recoil takes some getting used to, but isnt bad at all. he tells me he is planning on trying out the corbon 360gr rounds this weekend. if i hear from him, i'll ask him about it and see what he says.

Tell your friend

Tell your friend I talk to Mike at douldtapammo.com in two weeks he is making a 395gr for the 454 casull and others

I love my Ruger SRH in .454 Casull. The recoil isnt what I thought it would be. Even with the 300gr bullets its not bad at all. I however would be nervous before pulling the trigger with a 360gr bullet in the cylinder, I still want to try them though :D

Factory 454 ammo is typically loaded to about 50,000psi. The SAAMI max is 65,000psi. This leaves an HUGE area for handloaders to play with...if you can handle the recoil. Factory 454 ammo produces the same recoil energy as a 30-06 rifle. 454 ammo loaded to max pressure is down-right painful.

In factory form, however, the 454 has taken every animal that currently walks this planet, including African elephant. Loading it hotter only increases it's range and recoil. You don't lose anything in the way of "killing power" at factory loaded pressures.

Have you done much shooting with high-powered handguns? That gun is quite a handful. Maybe you don't want to start with the hottest load available for your first range trip.

start off with the Winchester 250gr hollow points. They dont recoil much at all, more like a heavy loaded 45 Colt. Actually I dont even think the 300gr bullets are bad either.
