ya'll i need your help

i'm writing a persuasive essay for one of my classes and i really need some back ground on the 2nd A. anything ya'll can tell me, i know the amendment of course but i don't know much about the coloies reaction to the constitution and specifically that amendment. i'm really excited to write this paper because my teacher is open minded and awesome and is grading on my ability to write a well writen, put together, and logically sound essay. not on my politics.

any help at all guys

I'd shoot for a thesis along the lines of how some people think it shoudl be taken away. Make it a persuasive essay about why the 2nd is good.
 
Download a copy of "Gun Facts" - that's a nice thick cross-referenced footnoted bundle of source material for you. http://www.gunfacts.info/

I'd also recommend a copy of "Origin of the Second Amendment" by David E. Young: http://www.secondamendmentinfo.com/

That contains 800 pages of original source materials from the ratification period.

Also, check out http://www.jpfo.org/ - Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership. They have a long list of persuasive materials with respect to gun ownership.
 
When I was a young lad.......

I had speech class in highschool, and the teacher had to finially make me stop making speeches about gun control, because they were so...........persuasive and well.....school and guns...u know that whole debacle. I remember my whole reason for doing all of them, was one girl in class went off and did a anti-gun speech, and started spouting all sorts of BS, so I went and did a semester long tirade about the great things that the 2nd ammendment has done for us. After the first one, I found it was a fight that I really had a passion for, and it was just easy for me to do speeches about it, versus grueling about any other topic :eek:
 
I guess that among other reasons, our democratic republic is the world's oldest due in part to a clear line drawn by the second amendment. There are older governments but there are no older democratic republics.

I'm surprised that your teacher is allowing this as most around here tend to put gun control, guns, abortion and other topics off-limits as being too overused.
